If anyone has ancestors from Wiltshire (particularly Salisbury and Tisbury diocese) I might be able to help by doing some look-ups for you. Here is a list of some of the records I have: Early Marriage Allegations Wilts, Berks & Dorset (1598-1638 in Salisbury diocese) Salisbury Records Vol 2 (Miscellanous Records - e.g. Gifts to the poor, children transferred from workhouse, prisoners, apprentice records etc - 1612-1820) South Newton parish registers ( baptisms/burials to 1837) Wiltshire, Dorset, Berkshire Marriage Licence Bonds (for Salisbury Diocese, which includes Wilts, Berks & Dorset & Uffculme in Devon, with many strays from other places) Church Pew Rents - Salisbury (1654-1843) Salisbury Cathedral Parish Registers (to 1837) TISBURY Baptisms (to 1837) If you would like a look-up, please leave a message below (or PM me). Please note that I work 9-6pm so look-ups will be done of an evening as it's impossible for me to bring all the registers to work with me LOL. Athena

Hi Athena, Thanks for the offer. I don't know how easy your records are to search. I don't want anything in particular, but if anytime you are searching and come across any KILL family (they were from the Codford, Stockton, Corton and Boyton area of the Wylie Valley, I'd be pleased for any information. Thanks again, Kath. x

Hi Athena, Thank you for your kind offer. Are you able to do look-ups for marriages which took place at Warminster Wiltshire? If so, I am searching for the first marriage of George Pearce. He was baptized 1809 St. Deny`s Warminster, Wiltshire and his second marriage took place 30.7.1839, St. Deny`s, Warminster, Wiltshire to Elizabeth Biffen. On this marriage certificate it states that he was a widower. George did not bring any children into his second marriage which might have helped to have traced the name of his first wife. I have searched the IGI and Free BMD but have had no luck in finding a first marriage for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Elizabeth

Hi Athena Many thanks for your kind offer - could you please look up the baptism record for Philip Phillips born c1805 in Hindon which comes under Tisbury. Many thanks Susan

- ELIZABETH ANNE: I have searched the Marriage Licence Bonds and cannot find a marriage for George Pearce/Pierce that would fit his age. Double-checked the IGI for you but, like you said, there are none listed for Warminster - but quite a few in other nearby parishes. It's possible he may have married first time round in a neighbouring parish (if perhaps his wife was from there). - SUSAN DUKE:: Sorry, there are no baptisms for any Philip Phillips circa 1805 Tisbury. I checked surname variants e.g. Philips/Phelps etc but none noted. I have the full 1562 - 1837 transcripts for Tisbury. I also checked Salisbury Cathedral and South Newton Baptisms. How definite are you of his birthplace?

Hi Kathleen Have searched through all the data I have (books/CDs) for mention of any KILL surname and the only entries I can find are the following. Not sure if they will be of use to you - but handy to keep a note for future reference (note the surname variant): TISBURY BAPTISMS: Mary Keel baptised 6 Oct 1776 - Parents: Abraham and Ann Ann Kill baptised 29 Aug 1779. Parents: Abraham and Ann WILTSHIRE MARRIAGE LICENCE BONDS: Robert Kill, 30, Joiner, Market Lavington, to Elizabeth Smyth, 30, Devizes, spinster Notes: mother and father in laws consent. Date: 6 OCT 1624 ----------------- Symon Kill, 23, Blacksmith, Easterton, to Jane Draper, 28, Easterton Bondsman: William Draper, Broadweaver, Easterton Date: 24 FEB 1637 ---------------- Andrew Kill, Yeoman, Market Lavington (Easterton), widow, to Alice Shuttle, 50, Market Lavington, spinster Bondsman: John Heskins, Market Lavington Date: 2 JUL 1639 ---------------- Richard Kill, widower, Devizes Mary Darling, Devizes Date: 2 JAN 1667 ------------------ Thomas Kill, Alton Barnes, to Mary Ovens, Lyneham Bondsman: Daniel Strange, St Mary Marlborough Date: 4 Nov 1727, Preschute ---------------- William Kill, 23, labourer, Westbury (Bratton), bachelor, to Sarah Thomas, 24, Netheravon Date: 11 AUG 1738 Netheravon -------------------- John Kill, husb, Market Lavington Sarah Draper, Market Lavington Date: 12 OCT 1763 ----------------------- William Kill, Victualler, Bulford Elizabeth Barley, 33, Everleigh Date: 27 JUL 1767. -------------------- Using variant of KEEL: Ambrose Keel, 32, Market Lavington Mary Cartwright, 27, Mkt Lavington, dau of Thomas of Shrewton Date: 28 DEC 1683 ---------- Samuel Keel, Winterbourne Bassett Eleanor Matthews, Rowde 9 NOV 1747 ---------- George Keel junior, Gardener, Reading St Mary Berks Hannah South,Reading St Mary Date: 15 MAY 1766 ---------- Thomas Keel, Yeoman, Grittenham? Harriet Morgan, Ashton Keynes Date: 23 AUG 1813 ---------- Quite a few from the same areas. Maybe you might find a connection to these one day, eh? It's such an unusual surname. Actually, just looking at the notes I've just made, if anyone was to see what I've written down I think they may start worrying about me...scawled across the top of page... 'Kill family'!! Hmmm...think I'd best tear that up! Best wishes Athena

Hi Joyce Sorry to disappoint but the only baptism records I have are for the parishes of TISBURY and SOUTH NEWTON and after checking both of these there are no Hillman's listed at all for these parishes. You mention the parish of Wingfield. If this is accurate, then I would recommend buying the Wingfield parish baptisms - you can do this easily through GENfair (just Google that name and the website will come up). Here are their details for Wingfield: 'Wingfield parish registers Transcripts of baptisms & burials from parish registers and bishops transcripts to 1837, indexed. A4 paperback, 39 pages. Price: £3.00 ( + 0.00 VAT in UK/EU) + postage' I have ordered many things from GENfair and they are very efficient and quick to arrive (about a week usually for me). Once you are on their website, click on the Quick Search button and type in Wingfield and you should see the link to the page for the above info. Good luck! Athena

Hi Athena, Thank you so much for all of the information you found. I really wasn't expecting so much so quickly. None of the information fits in with anything I have in my tree at the moment - but then I haven't got back that far yet, so I will keep all of this in case I ever do. Thank you again. Kill was my maiden name and my immediate family grew up thinking we were the only ones with this surname. When I started doing my family tree I found there were hundreds of Kills - mostly in the south (whereas we live in the north-east). We were all really surprised (but slightly miffed that we weren't as unique as we thought, LOL). Kath. x

Hello Athena, I dont know if you will be able to help with this but here goes! I have a copy of a marriage licence for my 6xggf William Franklin, who married Ann Dutch (father John Dutch), 05 Jan 1728/9 in Bishopstrowe. The problem I have is that the licence states that William is a widower and I cannot find a previous marriage! As the Franklins were mainly centered around Sutton Veny, I wondered if you may find a marriage there. Unfortunately I have no inkling as to who the first wife may be, although I did find a burial of an Ann Franklin 31 Jan 1715/16 in Sutton Veny, though this may be too early to be his first wife. Hope you may be able to help Regards Keith
