I hope some body can help me here or point me in the right direction. I am trying to find out ANY info on an Ancestor after 1901, but cant find a thing. I have tried the BDM index and cant find a Death or a marriage. Any one got any ideas? or maybe i have missed the entry???????? Th info on the person is as follows. Mr Allen Short Born c1872 Warminghurst, West Sussex In 1901 he was living at home with his widowed mother Emily in Ashington West Sussex. Any help would be great guys. Thanks.

Hi Mark. Will take a look later this morning. Have you been in touch with Elizabeth, James and Faye who also seem to have him in their trees? Jim

Jim, Thanks for that, any info you can spot would be great. And the names you have mentioned i have been in touch with them (Although i have taken a break from the research for a while) But, as i am sure you know. There always names in peoples trees that nobody seems to know much about. Just trying to tie up some loose ends. Thanks mate

Mark, can you confirm whether Allen is actually your ancestor or just a relative? If he is your ancestor, then can you tell us who his child was, and if you know, what the name of the child's mother was too, to help us look for the marriage? If he isn't actually your ancestor, but just a relative, then I am guessing from the approximate birthdate you give that you don't have his birth registration either, but just got his name from the census? In which case, Allen might not be his real name at all? Kate.

Anyway, to clear up part of it, this must be his birth registration entry, so he was born 1871 not 1872: Births Sep 1871 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short Allen Thakeham 2b 312 (Thakeham district included Warminghurst.) But as for the rest, before looking for his marriage it would be helpful to know what information you already have. Kate.

Sorry, i guess i did not make it very clear. I know his birth date`s etc and can track him and his parents (Peter and Emily Short) but only as far as 1901.......i dont know if he ever married, as i cant find ANY death date or any marriage entry. He is the Brother of my great grand father (Raymond Short) Thanks.

Okay, Mark, thanks for explaining that. Well, if you can't find his death, and you have searched right through the GRO death indexes from 1901 up to, say, the 1970's, then either his name is wrong on his death registration or he died in another country. It takes a long time to search through all those quarters, though! Kate.

There is this one... Death Sep 1920 Short Alan 48 East Preston 2b 354 He's the right age, but not sure about the name. You'd have to check it out to be sure. There's also this: Marriage Jun 1918 Short Allan sp - Judge Thakeham 2b 714a

Marriage Jun 1918 Short Allan sp - Judge Thakeham 2b 714a That looks like a good lead. I guess it looks like another £7 needs to be spent. Thanks to all that have helped/tryed. Mark.
