My husbands family are Scottish. What is the best way of searching for information. Everything seems to be geared towards England and Wales. Thanks, Emma

The above link for certs and more recent things. When you get into the 1860's use the IGI at familysearch.org (free) to get more accurate results on Scotlandspeople hence saving you credits. Afew other sites worth mentioning are Freecen.rootsweb*com (1841/51 free census bits) www.scotlandsfamily.com www.scotsman*com (newpaper archives) www.scotbmd*com (cert exchange) Mhairi

scotlands records are great, and give much more information than the english and welsh ones. If you register and buy credits for scotlandspeople, (the link you were given at the begining) you can search and download copies of the actual certificates, betting than forking out £7 !

Hi As the others have said Scotlandspeople and IGI are a good place to start. What area's/names are you looking into? Marion

Hi Marion, I am looking for James MacPherson in Edinburgh. It will more than likely be like looking for a needle in a haystack :) I think he was born about 1890? Regards, Emma

Hi I just had a look on Scotlandspeople. There are 3 James Macphersons born 1888-1892 in Edinburgh. Only 23 in all areas. You can go on without buying credits and do free searches. If he had a middle name it would be easier for you to find. Marion
