Posted yesterday and have now sent of for a birth cert. Hope to see if that confirms his mothers name at least. Meanwhile verbal information gleaned is as follows: William Henry Travis born 1906 West Derby, Liverpool, father also William Henry Travis, mmn believed to be Melia (my understanding is that she was Irish). William Henry the elder was listed as deceased at the time of his sons marriage in 1932. His wife married 3 times. William was her firstborn and Travis was her first marriage. Trying to find marriage information prior to 1906 for Travis - Melia. Cant find it on Free BMD or Lancashire BMD and also death information for the father prior to 1932. My aunt reckons William H (the son) had recollections of his father dressed in a soldiers uniform so that means he is not the William who is recorded as dying in 1906. Would have been years later possible post 1910 before he died and his wife the remarried and had two more children. Hummmm wonder if William Henry (dad) died in WW1. Off to visit CWG. Thanks in anticipation of any help. Di |

Barbara Part of the info is right, William Henry Travis b 1906 married Florence Saphier (my maternal grandparents). Williams father was definately a William Henry Travis as I have a copy of their marriage certificate and it shows his fathers name. I have seen the Elizabeth Wright marriage and I thought that would be right until I was told that his mothers maiden name was Melia. Well that chucked a spanner in my works as I then couldn't find a marriage for Melia - Travis at all! I do know she was married 3 times so I wonder if the verbal info is confused and Melia was one of her married names. I am going to have to order a copy of his birth certificate now so that I can confirm mothers name. Means I will have to wait a couple of weeks before moving forward, or rather, not moving forward at all, just confirming info I already have. Still to find William Henry's the elders death info and I still think it will turn out to be a WW1 death. Oh the challanges of tracing family history. Di |
