OK here is what I know... William Henry Travis born 1/7/1906 (that's the official story anyway but family rumour said it could be a little earlier), married Florence Primrose Saphier 2/11/1932 in Toxteth. A copy of the marrage cert revealed William's father to be another William Henry residing in Everton, Lancs. I am having difficulty in confirming which William Henry is his father as I cannot find his birth details. I can see one William Henry dying in 1906 and I do know that his mother remarried and he had at least two half sisters so this could stack, just don't want to jump to conclusions. What I would like is help to firm up this information and also identify any census information that may be available for father up to 1901. The earlier the better really as it will then reveal his own parents too. Sorry, I know it's not a lot to go on but it's driving me mad :-) Any help would be appreciated. Di |

Do you know his mothers name? Do you know who she married? Might help to know when she re-married to find Williams death. |

No information about his mother (my great grandmother) at all. My grandfather has been dead for many years now as has his wife, Florence Primrose (she died 1990 well before I started to get into family tree). I have seen unconfirmed information somewhere that she may have been called Elizabeth but this has not been proven. My own mother has no interest what so ever in this, doesn't understand the fasination at all. Consequently, no verbal information. Hence why I am finding it so hard to get anywhere. I have started from a point of certainty, ie marriage, which confirmed his fathers name as William Henry. From there I hope to roll back to either a) census, as we know that he lived in Liverpool in 1901 or b) birth records. There is definately a William Henry Travis death in 1906. Never seen a death record so not sure what pertinant information it would provide even if I got a copy. Di |

Di, Do you know when William Jr. died? If it was after about 1965 his date of birth should be listed. Rose |

Don't really know exactly when he (William Jnr) died. I was born 1957 and I remember him. I think I would have been 10 or 12 when he died so it was probably late 60's. Not found his death info yet but I have now ordered his birth certificate :-) so with luck that will answer the mystery about who his mother was. Then will need to track back from that. Rumour has it William senior was a serving soldier at one point and, as he was enlisting age in the WW1 I am making an assumption that he served at some point and that this may in fact have been when he died. All speculation at the moment though. Di |

Thanks Reg I have Florence and the Saphier line fairly well pinned down as far as Ancestry is concerned. Still have some of the decendants lines to work through at some point. It was quite a learning curve with that line as it goes back to Holland and into the Dutch Jewish records. I suspect I can even translate some of the Dutch / hebrew records now. Tragic but interesting as most of the Saphiers that stayed over in Holland were murdered in WW2 camps. Funny how the recent stuff (ie 1900's) can be harder to get to grips with. Still, back to the Travis battle. Di |

I am uncertain about the name William Henry Juniors mother. The confusion arises because his father is also William Henry. Makes tracing a bit of a mare really. To refresh, thanks to the info provided on here so far, ordered a copy of WH Juniors birth cert today :-) I am hoping this will pin his mothers name and help me then get marriage information from somewhere/someone. I still need to trace the death of William Henry senior as I do know his mother married 3 times and that WH Jnr had half sisters younger than him. I still need to trace WH Senior marriage (presumable prior to 1906 when junior was born) I still need to trace the Travis family (residence somewhere in the West Derby area of Liverpool) into the 1901 census. I am beginning to suspect that they are hidden behind a name spelling error. Still I am sure it will all unravel with time and effort. Thanks again Di |
