Glad to have questions that I can answer! Laura's father was William Price on her birth certificate. Although on her marriage cert she gave his name as Robert Parr ! But she lied about her age as well !! She may have put Robert Parr e because he was her grandfather, or because she had an old copy of Shakespeare which had Robert Chase Parr 1856 written in the front of it . Bertha's daughter Laura Pauline was born in 6 Fairflield Terrace,Bedminster Bristol 14 dec 1874. It says Price on the birth cert but she always called herself Parr! Her husband was William Perry commercial traveller (on my granny's birth cert) Granny knew very little about him and didn't remember seeing him again after her mother died, but as she was only 7 who knows ? I see on the 1891 she is by herself with the children. What was the first name of Mr Perry? Fiona.

On the 1861 census the only girl born between 1854 and 1858 is Charlotte?? Either she was Charlotte and they opted to nick name her Bertha or maybe Bertha was an adopted child so to speak. There also seems to be an Amelia in 1871 who isn't around in 1861??

Nicola what census's have you found her on? I cant see a Bertha Parr on the 1861 or 1871 census. Georgina.

Do you have her marriage certificate that may have her age on it. Also she may not have been named Bertha on her birth certificate.Who did she marry then we can search later for her birth year. Irene

Thanks I thought not. Clutching at straws ! I've even looked for anyone born in Axbridge during that time. Only found 1 in all those years. She's a real puzzle I'll try the local office next. Thanks

Have read it - its very hard to read but there are no Bertha's on the page. Dont forget that it wasn't compulsory to register births until 1875 so she might not be registered. Its always another possibilty that her birth entry wasn't sent to the GRO by mistake. Might be worth contacting the local records office to ask them to search for you.
