hi everyone, i am completely stuck trying to trace my grandmother. her maiden name was elizabeth darby, born dudley area. i have her marriage cert which states that she married thomas ashmore dec 25th 1899 aged 20 which would make her born 1879/80.her fathers name was joseph.she died in rotherham on 5/01/58 aged 76, which would make her birth year 1882!! i cannot find any record of her birth, can anyone give me any ideas or tips? thanks

Elizabeth married in 1899 - so presumably the first one is correct

trouble is family in 1891 match family in 1901 as children match Jeanette

hmmm very wierd cant find anouther Elizabeth Darby on census with father Joseph

Oh dear - and I thought the 1881 enrty was correct!! Could not find any other Joseph's with an Elizabeth

yes that is too as same address very confusing just put 2 births down went back to page other one gone AAAGGGHHHH Jeanette just looked on image only one there not sure where I got 2nd on from LOL

thanks jeanette and kay, you can see the probs i have been having, ive looked into all the census years and i thought it was the one at double row but have no proof, its so frustrating LOL

one family member says that elizabeths mothers maiden name may have been charlton, but that doesnt help much because i cant find a marriage between a joseph darby and a charlton!!

i have had a look at the marriage cert and the witnesses are a john and hannah fisher, so i looked on bmd for a marriage and found one between john fisher and hannah maria DARBY!! perhaps she was elizabeths sister! so now i am looking for a joseph darby with daughters hannah and elizabeth. it may be a coincidence of course but at least its another lead!!
