Hi again Marie, I just checked the Trying to Find Board in this section, typed in the name Verrall and up came 4 other people, one of whom is looking for the same Thomas Henry Verrall as you are. Check it out Pat

Hi Marie, I looked at the 1891 Census and it gives Thomas's place of birth as Bristol, Somerset and a Retired ex-Policeman. It would appear on the 1901 Thomas was working as a gardener on his own accord. Must be the same person as wife Caroline or Carrie born on both censuses Aylsham in Norfolk. Good Hunting Pat

Really sorry, but not having any luck. There are VERY few Verrells born Dorking in 1851 census, so I suspect he is probably listed as another village in that area, but can't see anything that remotely looks right. Maybe a new day and a fresh pair of eyes might help! If the birth we've found in 1891 might be yours, then it might be worth getting it just to see if the parents are conclusive. I did the same Zoe, a bit puzzling. Birthyear in 91 est. 1845 and in 1901 1852, so anything before after or inbetween!!

I've also checked all THomas who are Policemen of the right age in 1881 (he states on 1891 he's an ex-policeman) but I'm not having any luck there either

have marriage cert for his son for 1909 and father is listed as thomas henry verrall occup gardener.

Can't seem to find Thomas earlier though. I wonder if he also went by another middle name? I've looked just with the first name, birthyear plus/minus 10 years EVERYWHERE! I can't see any possible misspellings. Do you have any other info, such as possible parents or siblings, marriage cert with witnesses etc?? Thanks. Mags
