Find Ancestors

Hi all It's me again, back with a query of your most favourite types- tracing the Taylor name in London. :-) My g-grandfather was James Taylor born c.1863 in Tottenham, and in 1884 he married Ellen Grange born c.1861 in Tottenham(Marriages Dec 1884 Edmonton 3a 361). On the certificate it said that his father was also a James Taylor, but he was deceased at the time of the marriage. Her father's name was left blank, so I'm assuming she was illegitamate. James Taylor (the one born 1863) was a harness maker. Together they had at least 6 children: James, Ethel, Thomas, (Ellen) Mary, Fred and John. I have found him on the 1901 census, and I think I have found him on the 1881, living with his uncle, but I am only basing this on the evidence of him being an apprentice harness maker. I have not been able to go back any further- I don't know when his father died, what his profession was, or what his mother's name was. Can anyone help me find him in the 1871? There are a hell of a lot of James Taylors of London out there and it's sending me snooker loopy. Thanks in advance for any help recieved. Anna

Righto. I can't find a widowed Emma Taylor on the 1881, so I guess she's either died or remarried.

Germaine, That is the entry for the 1881 which I am thinking. It looks like his father died between 1861 and 1871, and the occuptaions match, but apart from that I'm not sure.

Got the uncle in 1871 so perhaps if we trace him back can find the father if he has a brother James and a correct age. Well this looks like Uncle Joseph in 1851 with brother James so now we know his DOB. He isn't with them in 1861 so must have been married by then.
