Find Ancestors

I have been unsuccessfully trying to find the marriage of the following:- Robert Bruce born 1846-48 Northumberland To:- Hephzibah Fountain born 1847/8 Walton on Thames, Surrey In 1881 they are living in Lambeth with their 10 month old daughter Mary. I found a marriage of a woman of the same name in 1876, Farnham, Surrey, but alas not to Robert, and of the wrong age. Can you help at all? Thanks in advance, Jacqueline

Jacqueline Hepzibah Fountain is a very uncommon name. I think the chances of two people with this name in the same area must be pretty impossible. Is it possible that Hepzibah was married to the other chap but living with Mr Bruce as his wife on the 1881 which is why maybe you cannot find a marriage? Marilyn

Have you searched on thecomplete images on Ancestry http://www.ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx you need to search quarter by quarter, year by year: If you haven´t done so would suggest you start at 1881 and work backward

There are two Hepzibah Fountains in Surrey in 1861......presumably the 1876 marriage is the other one, as the district tallies. Walton on Thames would register in Chertsey. Reg

According to the Surrey Advertiser 10/02/1872 a Mr Fountain, a Postman from Ash committed suicide. Ash is near Guildford, Surrey, close to Farnham. Couldn't the two Hebzibahs be mother and daughter - the mother being widowed after her husband's suicide?

The Hepzibah in Ash was born c1853...........the mother of the one born in Walton on Thames was Celia. Reg

I think we are getting side tracked here guys!! According to the 1871 census William Fountain (age 55) is the Postmaster of Ash POst office. Wonder if it was him who committed suicide. By the way his daughter Heppybatt (also known as Hephzibah) is his assistant!! Marilyn

Looks like they weren't married in 1880 because the first child was called Mary Cecilia Fountain, not Bruce as listed on the 1881 census. Mary Cecilia then dies. Where is the family after 1881? Rose

Found them in 1901 as H Bruce and TR Bruce in Lambeth. Rose
