Thanks - I'm learning a lot! Am actually trying to demonstrate that I do not have a family connection with this family!!! Another relative has suggested that my gggrandmother was related to William Henry Bragg who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1916 ( this is the William Henry b Cumberland 1862). His father was an officer in the merchant navy. I can find a connection between my gggrandmother and the Bragg family of Brightlingsea, who were mostly fishermen'mate/master mariner depending on which one you look at. Seems unlikely there is a connection but a GOOD EXCUSE FOR SOME RESEARCH..... Peter

Having traced them back to the early 1700's in Workington I'm convinced they are not mine. Another myth disproved. Interesting that a google search on William Henry Bragg says his father was in the merchant navy whereas this evidence suggests that he was a farmer. Peter
