It has been comfirmed by someone looking at 1891 census that Sarah was born at Hele which is apparently just outside Ilfracombe which puts another tick for this census being the same family as in 1901 census. I think I might be getting somewhere at last Christine

How about this as Nellie's birth certificate? Name: Nellie Jeffery Year of Registration: 1893 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Bideford County: Devon Volume: 5b Page: 490 (click to see others on page) There were no Eleanors to be found, and only this Nell* in Devon. Might be worth taking a look at the certificate?

Could this be a death registration for Susan? Name: Susan Jeffery Birth Date: abt 1862 Year of Registration: 1889 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Age at death: 27 District: Okehampton County: Devon Volume: 5b Page: 255 (click to see others on page) It's the only entry that Ancestry could come up with to fit birth 1867+/- 5 years and death 1890 +/- 5 years, susan jeffry with soundex. It's stretching credulity though - her husband would have had to have remarried by 1891, and put the wrong wife's name on the census return. Might be worth checking again when the BMD is more complete.

Yes I know there are lot of registration districts that is the problem I wish I could out for sure where she was born but I don't seem to be able to find anything for sure. Even census differ a lot. I just don't know where to turn. Christine

I can see why this lot are difficult to trace. They are moving at least every two years - large distances - and then with Jeffrey/Jeffery/other combinations, this is tough! On the other hand, there are consistencies, which makes it more hopeful - they agree from 1891 to 1901 that Alice was born in Exeter (approx 1884/85), that William was born in Tavistock (although they are getting more hazy about the year!) and that Sarah was born in Ilfracombe (could the 1891 reference be to Hele, just outside Ilfracombe?). Even so, there are still lots of birth certificates to choose from...do you know the coverage for the registration districts in each case?

Now looking for her Brothers and sisters birth for same reason. I have several possible DOB for Grandma and 2 places of birth.
