Yeh Elizabeth was classed as a widow. I know what you mean about marriage certs. I have one that does not have deceased under the father, but i know that he was. I'll take a look at the earlier census.

Poss...but theres no father, so im presuming he died. But when ernest married, his fathers name & occupation were on cert. it doesnt say deceased at side of it.

Could the Ernest Evans born 1884 on the 1901 census be yours.

The Ernest on the 1901 census is definitely aged 8 - no occupation listed next to his name. The only other Ernest I can find on the 1901 is this one Ernest Evans Nottingham Nottinghamshire living at 35 Long Road, Nottingham - living on own - no year of birth, place of birth or occupation given.

I have Ernests marriage cert, he married in 1909; so was hoping he'd be at home til then. Theres a big difference in birth yrs between the 1891 and the 1901 for some reason. His dad was John, a shoe finisher, so am sure its the right family. When he married and had my great grandmother, (whose cert Ive got), they were living in same house Ernest had been born in.

Rebekah - maybe your Ernest had left home by then. I´ll have another look for him.

Mind u, Sam was listed as 1888 on the 1891, so maybe info just not accurate.

Ooer..the Ernest born 1883 is suppposed to be my great great grandad...hope ive not b**gered up.

The Ernest on the 1901 census is definitely listed as aged 8 - so maybe the Ernest who was born in 1883 (on the 1891 census) has died ??
