Dear Jess, Helen and Heather Thanks for your replies - sorry been late getting back - have to snatch moments on here inbetween 3 small kiddiwinks! Yes its still George Fry causing the issue! I've checked all variations of his name - I have no idea who his parents were or where he was married - I've been trying to trace the marriage probably London area through matches between his name and his spouse Louisa Powell though the Beta BMD on ancestry. Its his family I'm trying to find details of to get back a generation but once again he just vanishes. Hence my reasoning that there might have been non-conformist records |

Non-conformists kept separate church/meeting house records, but they would be on the census. I bet they are just mistranscribed, or the information they gave isn't what you were expecting. nell |

Hi Dianna If you give his name we could search for him too. He's probably been mistranscribed. Heather |

I have been unable to find my Great Grandfather earlier than the 1891 census. My mother thinks he may have come from a quaker family. Forgive my ignorance (fairly new to all this) but surely even quakers filled out census returns - or is there some group of records I'm unaware of? If so what and where can I get them. Answers on a postcard please?........... |
