Hi everyone, bit of a tricky one. as I don't have much info. I'm looking for an Arthur Fitzroy & or an Elizabeth Thompson. The only info I have of them is they had a child August 1844, named Arthur Fitzroy. He was born Vicar or Vicars Street, Eccles, Lancashire. Reg district Barton upon Irwell. Arthur Fitzroy (Father) occupation was Gentleman! More info below. Any help is much appreciated, Claire

In 1851 Arthur Fitzroy (son) had become Arthur Fitzroy Thompson & was living as lodger at the age of 6 with a couple named Boyle. No idea who they are & no idea what happened to his parents... Can anyone help? Thanks, Claire x

Hi Sandra, thanks for that info, I'm not sure if it's her or not. Did it say who she was living with? Thanks, Claire x

Thank you Sandra. Deborah: I've tried that, I've got Arthurs marriage cert 1865 & it's blank where fathers info should be! That's why I went for the birth cert hoping to find some answers!... At least I've got his parents names now, but just wish I could find out who they were. Thanks Claire x

Hi Reg, Not sure what you mean. But in space where it says Name, surname & maiden name of mother - It just says: Elizabeth Thompson. Is that what you meant? Claire x

I wonder then if he is in fact illegitamate child .Elizabeth perhaps a servant in the household of Fitzroy? As he takes his mothers maiden name. Perhaps Elizabeth is married by 1851 and her new husband doesnt want much to do with the son??

Yes, Claire, that's exactly what I meant. So the child was illegitimate........finding the father will be difficult, to say the least. Although, as he is named, on emust assume that he accepted that he was the father.............. Reg

Yes, I believe he must have been illigitimate. On Arthur's (son) marriage cert 1865 it was left blank where fathers name should be. Another clue to him being illigitimate. However, the name Fitzroy has been passed down in my family right until my Grandfather. I feel the name Fitzroy has some importance of some sort, because why else would he bother giving all his children, & children after & so on & so on the middle name of Fitzroy! Thanks, Claire x

Perhaps you should search the name FITZROY in the Lancashire area near where your Arthur was born....... was he sent to Ackworth School in 1861? If so another clue that his father was happy to provide his upkeep. Perhaps Elizabeth died giving birth? Have you searched for a death in the area that Arthur was born?
