If this is a lady, she could have married. Think you may have to get the death cert to get the age I'm afraid. Jo

Kate Report 8 Mar 2006 16:25

Have you searched through the death indexes quarter by quarter or just on FreeBMD? Kate.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 8 Mar 2006 16:28

Agnela is only a mistranscription, I would think. The death record should show the correct name. Reg

Oooh, could this be him? Name: Wilkes, Aquila Corns Record Type: Deaths Age at death: 63 Quarter: June Year: 1875 District: Wolverhampton County: Shropshire Staffordshire West Midlands Volume: 6b Page: 354 (click to see others on page) The age is a bit wrong and he has a middle name, though. Kate.

Do you not think that one I found could be him, then, Linda? Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 8 Mar 2006 23:30

After all, the 1808 christening entry on Family Search gives his full name as Aquila Cornes Wilkes: AQUILA CORNES WILKES Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: 24 JUL 1808 Saint Lawrence, Darlaston Near Wolverhampton, Stafford, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: SAMUEL WILKES Family Mother: DIANA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date. And this marriage, also from FamilySearch, should prove whether your Aquila was this Corn(e)s one or not (I see his wife is Sarah in the two census entries above): IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 British Isles Search Results | Download | Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AQUILLA CORNS WILKES Male Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: SARAH LONDON Family Marriage: 15 OCT 1832 Tipton, Stafford, England -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the marriage date. I would love to know whether you think it is him or not! Kate.

sooo sorry didn't get back to this thread earlier. Kate I think it has to be him but dates dont add up,

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 17 Mar 2006 15:15

You have to bear in mind that the recorded age at death is only as given to the registrar by the informant........... Reg

Linda in the Midlands

Linda in the Midlands Report 17 Mar 2006 16:00

not sent for a death cert before, what information does it give you? thanks

Kate

Kate Report 17 Mar 2006 18:47

The christening date matches his age on the census, and the death has to be the same person as the christening, as there is nobody else with that name. The death cert will tell you where and when he died, where he lived, what caused his death, what date the death was registered, and the name and address of the person who registered the death (the 'informant'), and their relationship to the deceased. If there was an inquest into his death the 'informant' will probably be the coroner, if there wasn't it may well be a family member. Oh, and it will give you his age and occupation as well. Kate.

thanks Kate, no wonder I keep getting confused when my rellies don't know how old they are supposed to be! at least with a name like his there's not 100s to search through, if only the rest of my family were so easy
