People moved around a fair bit after the war, so they could have married anywhere. However the only way of finding the marriage is to trawl every qtr. of the marriage indexes backwards from the time he died. Kath. x |

Are you sure the second wife was called Ethel May? It's just that there is this marriage:- George Maddams to Bertha M. Harvey June qtr. 1920, Marylebone, 1a, 1620 Bertha and Ethel could possibly be mixed up. Kath. x |

If you have trawled through the indexes but can't find, then chances are that he didn't marry for a second time. They must have just lived together. She would have been well within her rights to take his surname and register hs death as his 'wife'. Elaine ;-) He didn't remarry before end of 1920 anyway .... so searches should be made 1921 - 1937 |

The only thing you can do, is search the BMD index from 1920 to when he died... http://www.ancestry.*com/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx It's FREE at the moment. |

Are you certain that they divorced. It's just that divorce wasn't usual for ordinary people in those days, and very expensive. Lots of people just left their spouse and moved away with someone else. Kath. x |

Yes. Search the Marriage indexes, going back from the year he died. Have you any idea if he had children with his first wife ? if so, when was the last one born ... he could have married again any time after this ... but obviously before he died. Ancestry are currently letting everyone view the indexes for FREE. This is the addy: http://www.ancestry(.)co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8965 will take you straight to Marriage indexes. remove () If he had children with his Second Wife - HER surname will be against their names in the Birth indexes. Elaine ;-) |

Have you got his death cert? Does it not tell you who registered him! You will have to look through the GRO records to try and find the marriage? Zoe |
