Thank you so much Sarah- that gives me something to work on. A fresh pair of eyes is just what I needed. Thanks Gerry, but yes a couple of people have kindly tried to find a marriage in Derbyshire for me but no success I'm afraid. I was thinking that as William's wife Hannah always shows on the census as born Codnor, Derbyshire and so does the second son Edward, that maybe William had moved to Derbyshire after death of Mary and he has met Hannah and they have had son Edward. William always seems to move to where Potteries are. After Derbyshire they have moved to Staffordshire and had son George. There is a marriage in Staffordshire 1838 that fits to their names, Hannah's maiden name is Barker, but it is not them as they are too young, occupation is wrong, and I have found this couple on the 1841 for Staffs, whereas my family is in Liverpool in 1841. Derbyshire FHS have tried to find birth of Edward for me but to no avail. It is one of those families that is never straight forward!! I'm sure you've got some of those yourself. Oh well, perhaps William and Hannah never actually married! Thanks again Simone x

Is it a bird? is it a plane? Report 27 Dec 2005 15:02

On the IGI (familysearch.org) I found two marriages in Ellesmere parish of a William Jones to a Mary. They are William Jones & Mary Cartwright 9 Mar 1830 and William Jones and Mary Williams 28 May 1832 I also did a search for christenings in the same parish to william Jones & Mary and came up with 14 children so presumably one of these couples stays in the area and have children, while the other is your family.

Hi Looking for a possible marriage in Ellesmere parish between William Jones b 1813 in Ellesmere, and Mary (don't know her maiden name), about 1833/34. Also looking for death of Mary shortly afterwards, know a son John was born in Feb 1834 to William and Mary in Ellesmere as I have the baptism record for this- However a son is born 1835/36 called Edward in Derbyshire and his mother is Hannah, b 1811 Derbyshire. Thinking that Mary may have died and then William re married to Hannah. William has then had more children with Hannah. Trying to ascertain that baptism for John I have is definitely mine as can't find a marriage for a William and Hannah in Ellesmere. I have been able to find this family on each census- William b Shropshire, Hannah b Derbyshire, sons- John b Shropshire, Edward b Derbyshire, George b Hanley Staffs, and then other childen b Liverpool. As I have a baptism for John to William and Mary in Ellesmere Shropshire, any help confirming it is mine greatly appreciated. Hope this make sense! Thanks Simone x Popping out soon but will be back later.
