Can anyone help me find birth of Edward Moxom c1877 in Bournemouth, Dorset? The surname may be a variation of Moxom ie Moxham, Moxon. I have found it spelt incorrectly throughout our family tree. He was married (don't know when) to lady with nee JUDD-CHALK (cant find her either). Any help greatly appreciated. Lynne

Oh dear. He moved from Dorset to London as he worked as a ship's carpenter for the Gaslight & Coke Company. Not sure where I got Bournemouth from now, all my papers are at home. Possibly given to me by my father whose memory is fading. I know it was definitely Dorset but possibly Dad got it wrong with Bournemouth. But thanks for trying for me. I can find any of my father's relations at all, not helped by the fact that Edward went to America in 1926/7 of course. Thanks again Lynne

You should be able to find him on 1881 census..........FREE on www.familysearch.org Once you know the correct birthplace, a search will be easier. Rose

I'll reply here instead of on my thread, so everyone else can see the info. There is no Edward Moxom born between 1875 and 1880. I did find this though Birth Jun 1880 Moxom Male Aylesbury.3a 627 To follow on from Rose' message... do you have in any of the censuses??

Hi Rose Have tried that one but can't find him anywhere. The difficulty is the different spellings of the surname. Even on my daughter's birth certificate my maiden name is spelt wrong! I keep meaning to get it put right. My husband recorded the birth. Say no more. I have tried going backwards from my dad to try to get birth certificates but the only one I have been able to get is his! Cant find the rest of his family. Shame really. I will keep persevering though. Lynne

List the whole family, and I'll try to see if I can find them.

If you don't have the marriage cert, and seem not to have found him on any census...where do you get the info about his possible year of birth? Rose

Rose That's interesting Rose. Was that a birth record or a census record? If it is a census record were there others recorded? I might be able to tie the two together by childrens names etc as in my father's family the eldest boy seemed to be named after the father and the girl after the mother? Except his child was called Edmund as was my father, again a misspelling. It never ends in my father's family. Mum's is simple! Lynne

1881 and 1901 are the census years Rose

Rose I'm not 100% sure now Rose as my paperwork is at home, but I think my father said how old he was when he went to America and we know he went in 1927 when my father was a year old. Not an accurate way to work out the age I know and I have already managed to dispel some rumours about my paternal grandmother's family that my father gave me. Well he is quite old now! My father's father was born in 1906 though so I have one piece of information, but I can't even find him. Lynne

Lynne, how about this one? Birth Mar 1907 Moxom Edmund John Christchurch 2b 654 He is Edwards son, right?

Lynne

Lynne Report 13 Oct 2005 16:52

Born 7th Feb. 1906 Edmund John Moxom. They were living in London when he was born my dad thinks. Is Christchurch in London? As I am not sure how these records work, could it be that his birth was recorded a year late? Lynne

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy Report 13 Oct 2005 16:54

Not necessarily registered late, but people's memory tends to add or take a year from peoples birthdays. Christchurch is Hampshire. Christchurch Created 1st July 1837. Sub-districts : Bournemouth; Christchurch GRO volumes : VII (1837-51); 2b (1852-1930). Bournemouth, Christchurch, Christchurch East, Highcliffe, Holdenhurst, Hurn, Pokesdown, Sopley, Southbourne, Winton. Registers now divided between Bournemouth and New Forest districts. That's where your Bournemouth comes from!!

Excellent Tracy. It is him, it must be, well I will find out. That last entry you made is really interest the name Chalk appears. Edward married someone with a surname Judd-Chalk. So that ties in. A breakthrough at last. I am really excited now and I have to go home from work. Can't log on again until tomorrow. Thank you both so much Rose and Tracy. Until I sign on tomorrow. Bye all and thank a million Lynne
