It looks as though the 1870 Sep Q marriage is to either Mark Beaumont or Robert Cox. Have checked 1837 for Martin married in that quarter and there are none in Bethnal Green. There is an Ellen Cox/possibly Thomas Martin marriage in Uckfiels Sep Q 1876 Uckfield 2b 194 Peter |

I think that you may need to order that marriage certificate. At least then you will know if it is definatley her, Plus you will know who she married. Another theory, Maybe she married in 1870 (not to a Matin) He then died before 1876 (when WE Martin is born). She then marries a Martin and has W E Martin after. That would explain why you can find no marriage for her to a Martin. She would be on the 1871 in her first married name. Pat |

I am trying to track down Ellen Martin (ms Hollinsworth) and her son W E Martin. Ellen was born in Sheffield in 1853 to parents Henry and Eliza Hollinsworth. She appears with them in the 1861 census in Sheffield. I have a possible marriage for her in 1871 (after the census) but the other names have not been transribed and the number is hard to read. I do not have a record of where she was in the 1871 census. I know that she married a Martin as she appears with her family in the 1881 census, in Sheffield with a 5 year old son. W E Martin c1876 born in London. I have no idea what the W E stands for, why the enumerator didnt just put down his first name i have no idea, it would make things easier. After 1881 they disappear again. I have asked before for this and i thank anyone who has already tried but i am no further on with finding her or her son. Mhairi |
