Well, she was born 1822, so the date was a little out, but I've come to take that as the norm lol

'specially when I can't find the other marriage, or the first one's death lol Sooo not nice. Only reason I know it's not the same Mary, is cos in 1871 they are living with her Sister.

Lol Tracey. Why do they do that? Live with someone the same name, I mean. very inconsiderate for future researching.

Thanks Netty, but there are no Stoneys living with them at any time. What makes it worse, is that in 1851, Samuel is living as without her, but then in 1861, he's married to another Mary lol

It might've been a transcription. Was a while ago when I found it.

Are we talking original record here? There was a standard format for marriage records then, which should include them. I have witnesses on marriages much earlier, 1792.

Any more STONEYs as witnesses or informants anywhere to link her into a family? Do you know where she was born? Where is John in 1841 and onwards, - with a wife? Can you find his death, when his wife might have been informant or do either of them feature with known family in any census? Using all that info. it will be back to parish records once you've located a birthplace. UPDATE OK John died pre 1841 census but the death certificate might help.

She was born in Lindley, Huddersfield. They married in Huddersfield. John was also born in Huddersfield, and baptised at St Peters, in the town centre. The marriage took place on 15 Apr 1838. John was buried in Emmanuel, Lockwood on 8 Jun 1840. Thanks June, but that's too far away.

I have a woman - Mary Ann Stoney born 1818. She married my 4xGGrandfather in 1838. Her father was John Stoney. He died in 1840. How can I find out who her mother was if it's not in any of the records?
