Hi Again Everyone I really do appreciate all your help, but think I might have to just put it on the back burner for a bit as am not getting very far at present. Yes in the photo Florence does look to be in her 60's, which makes me wonder if she is infact the Florence Berryman born in India in the 1901. There were no other children born to Florence that I know of, and her daughter Beatrice who is still alive, is not very forthcoming in information, quite possible she was born illegit, she does not speak fondly of her mother. She was raised mostly by extended family as her mother Florence used to go away alot. Beatrice never met her father apparently he died when she was a baby MIA, we assumed during WW1 but the dates dont really fit do they and I also havent been able to find a record for him on CWGC. I really think India might play a significant part in all of this just not sure how. If I can find Florence's death which was 1940-1945 and order her cert that might tell me more, age, place of birth etc?...clutching at straws here! Also, Beatrice has 2 Berryman cousins, who must be neices of John Victor's. Their names are Edith 'Joan' Berryman and Winifred Berryman born c1919 also. If I can find out who their father was it might lead me to John Victor. Thanks again Danielle

Merry, you're not alone there. I've been looking on and off for weeks lol. I wonder if the didn't get married, and Florence took his name when he went off to war so that Beatrice would look legitimate?

What IS Florence's maiden surname on the birth cert?? In the index it seems to be down as Bowe, not Bow or Bows Merry

Danielle You say in your request that John Victor 'went missing in action' in WW1..............as the war ended in Nov 1918, it must have been very late in the campaign, as the daughter wasn't born until July 1919. I've looked on the CWGC site....no listing for him........... Rose

Hi Irene The certificate reads quite clearly, just puzzled about what it reads. But I agree sometimes the writing isnt the clearest. Thanks Danielle

Just a thought. I received a certificate I could not read and sent it back with a note informing them it was not clear and then received a much better copy of the certificate. You could ask the same and see if it helps. Regards Irene

Hello EVERYONE!!! Wow thankyou all so much for taking an interest in this for me. Being in Australia I have been totally oblivious to it all whilst dreaming of elephant heads!!! Ok in the Informant column it has Florence Berryman Mother 'Ganesh' Cowper Road Now I have been told that Florence was a Welsh Stage Singer in her heyday and that they lived in a pub around the time of Beatrice's birth. I wonder if the Ganesh could be the pub? In the photo of Beatrice and her mother Florence in 1920 Beatrice looks quite old, possibly in her 60's. Florence died 1940-1945 Thankyou again for all your help with this. Danielle

Looked in the 1901 census No Florence Bows but a few Florence Bow. There is a Florence Berryman born in India, Secunderabad, age 28 living on own means in Woldingham. Surrey.(might be something to do with what you are looking for) 3 John Berryman's age 18 St.Agnes. Cornwall. Egreement, Cumberland age 24 and again St.Agnes, Cornwell age 28 all to do with mining. Good Luck Irene

Danielle I can only suggest you try to find the parents' marriage cert to see if that helps. Alternatively, if you are techno-clever you can e-mail me the image and I'll see if I can make sense of it. nell

I received a long awaited birth cert today for a Beatrice Claire Berryman born 10th July 1919. Father John Victor Berryman (Mining Engineer) Mother Florence Berryman formerly Bows. Address Cowper Road, Worthing. It has Florence Berryman Mother 'Ganesh' - I have no idea what this means? besides Google telling me about a God and an elephants head. I have no clue who her parents are as I cant find a marriage nor a birth for either of them. Apparently John Victor went Missing in Action during WW1. Beatrice's place of birth was 'Groombridge Nursing Home', Chancer Road, Worthing W.D. Any ideas on this one would be SOOOO gratefully received. Thankyou Danielle
