Yes - that's what I meant, sorry! Look for John (father of the 4yr old) on 1841 Karen

Yes good idea! will ask Cheers Lynn x Ps if he was 4 in 1851, he wouldn't exist on the 1841. Unless, I've misunderstood what you meant. If there is an 1841 census, I know he didn't marry till 1846, so I would be looking for John b1823 with father John, miner.

KarenInScotland Report 22 Aug 2005 16:48

that's good news! As his oldest son was 4 in 1851 you can hope he wasn't married and was still at home in 1841. Some areas do have 1841 available on disc so its worth asking. Or better still do a search on the records board for Staffordshire 1841 and see if anyone is offering lookups, if not ask if anyone has it. Failing which most local history centres have the census there. Karen

I think that must be the right christening. Did you find it off the familysearch website? Lynn

Hi Karen and Tracey. Much gratitude for your help. This is definately the right family. I think the early comment about needing earlier census is probably right. As I understand it the earliest is 1851. Is this true? I would need an 1841 to find information out. Does this exist? Cheers Lynn

I notice Tracey found your man on 1861 & 1891, which doesn't add up with the John I found so that is probably a red herring. To clarify I am Posting census results here for ease - what I understand you are looking for in John born 1823 with his father John - in which case you need earlier census returns. Yes, you're right. I shouldn't give up but I don't know how to verify I have the right family. I can't check marriage or birth certs because it is before 1837. Does it mean I have togo staffordshire record office to find a parish record? Thanks for your support Lynn x

Don't give up! Why not have a look at the John Wooton I found living with his son, and see if you sort out a connection. Highly possible this is your John snr. You may never find him living with his son John - that would be too easy! Karen

I think it is proving too difficult to fing John Wooton senior. Or am I giving up to quickly?

Lynn

Lynn Report 19 Aug 2005 19:16

Gosh, I don't know what other sons he had apart from John. So I'm trying to find John Wootton living with another John wootton, probably in staffs. Then i can look at the later census records John junior was a Grocer and beer seller. i don't know if it was a family business? Will keep trying Lynn
