No worries Happy (or maybe not so happy, Isobel???) Some of these sites mess you about - Have been fighting with ''The Genealogist'' for a few weeks but that's another story! Also, did some transcribing for FreeCEN in 1999. Submitted my piece numbers at the end of that year, but I see they are STILL not accessible as they have not finished checking them yet! Lol - maybe I made lots of errors????? (hadn't thought of that before lol) Time for bed now MMM - PS I'd be happy to do any lookups for you if you like (on Ancestry I mean)? I'm sorry to hear how S&N messed you around...... The power must have gone to their heads? |

Well hello Sarah and I,m Isobel who has lost my subscription for doing lookups I,m annoyed that I have been indexing for S&N for about 15mths and would not do lookups for payment and yet they know exactly who I,ve looked up for. I admire the fact youve done your tree without needing to know who sells what ,but since I starteg this the only things that come up are all leading back to Ancestry(which I subscribed to last year) and cant afford this year or S&N which I started to index for to buy the discs,as they give you a £10 voucher for every piece you complete. To date I have done about 50. I have seen your name on the boards before. Trouble is we all change names from time to time ,so dont always know whose who |

Nope - have just looked at their website. Some of the boxes looked a bit like the ones from Stepping Stones (which are rubbish, I would just like to say!!) I suppose I have not googled to look for sources recently, because most research I am doing is through Ancestry and record offices. Ah well, I think I should go back to tips now - maybe a mistake to venture over here??!! (Blame DD - she put a thread on tips a bout this thread and I was nosy enough to drop in.......) MMM |

Hi Happy H, I said NO offence taken!! I only changed my name on here yesterday - was previously Sarah Montgomery. Admit to answering more on tips board recently, but am still on here for several hours every day answering all the time!! Honest!! What does S and N stand for?? Am I suddenly going to find myself embarrassed that I have heard of them??? MMM (Sarah) |

Sorry to cause offence MMM but spend a fair bit of time on here myself and have never seen your name before. As someone who has information from all over I can see that you might not have purchased from S&N but would have thought that everyone doing a tree now would have heard of them.Surely when looking for information we all google Genealogy resources and get the same list of companies. with respect Happy |

Hello Happy Hippy, Well lets see - I have census via Ancestry back to 1861. I have CD's of census for 1851 and 1841, but not from S & N. I have numerous fiche of PR's and census. Apart from Ancestry I have not bought any census material for at least five years or so, because I either had it already or my lines were back before the census time frame. So huge apologies if you are not impressed that I had not heard of S & N until a few weeks ago!! That's a bit cheeky to say I may have only had lookups from this site, when I'm on here every day for hours at a time helping others with their lookups and I think I have only asked for a very few myself. (and only two that were census orientated!) No offence taken though!! lol MMM |

Seems strange Youve been doing your tree for 10 years without knowing who has census discs and indexes.Maybe youve only had lookups from this site.Or maybe youre the old school who did it with records office and certificates |

Well, Jackass 500, I've been doing my tree seriously for ten years++ (that means nearly every day lol - sounds scary when I put it that way!!) and I don't know who S & N are!!! (apart from reading it on this thread!) MMM |

ITS INTERESTING TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ON THE SITE DONT KNOW WHO S&N ARE. HAVE THEY DONE ANY RESEARCH IN THEIR TREE BEFORE ASKING FOR LOOKUPS AND WOULD THEY CARE IF SOMEONE ELSE WAS PREPARED TO LOSE THE SUBSCRIPTIONS SO LONG AS THEY GOT THE LOOKUP THEY WANTED. |

Hi Elaine.. We've chatted before.. I have a couple of S & N discs but they have no index and I would find it hard work and time consuming to even contemplate offering look/ups. canny lad Mike |

GR don't say you can offer lookups on census disc's ..... QUOTE: 'If you are visiting a records office and are happy to do a lookup on behalf of other members please post a message here'. Most folks who offer lookups on this board, for 1851/1841 use disc's ... and some MAY have purchased them from S & N genealogy. Same with Name Indexes for '41/51. S & N have a STRICT rule ... you are NOT allowed to do lookups on behalf of others ... if your found out then the consequences are as above. This thread will be understood by those who do the lookups using S & N census's. Dancer x |

Can you explain a bit more?? What happened to you? I have not been on here as long as ''months''!! If some forms of lookup are not allowed (because of copyright laws?? Though most copyrights I have investigated seem to allow limited searching and reproduction of records for others), why does GR allow us to do them??? After all, we know the GR police are out and about looking for pub threads etc. Surely this is a more important issue for them to police??? Happy Hunting (or maybe not?) MMM |

another person has been suspended from S & N Name Indexes because they have been doing lookups on this site. GenesReUnited have been mentioned on the e.mail as the source of information. The person suspended has NOT been offering lookups ... but has still been found out because the person HAS been answering requests on the boards. PLEASE folks ... BECAREFUL. Mosty of you know that I myself was also caught a few months ago ... which is one of several reasons I no longer 'offer' lookup... but it hits hard when your subscriptions are suspended ... especially when you have paid up front a year in advance. Elaine :-( |
