Yes. The first marriage is in 1851, and the second in 1878. I think whoever told you Isaac was his father was mistaken. Both baptisms (which ever is correct) have the father as Thomas, which matches the marriage cert for 1878. |

This is the first marriage record... Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1851 CHORLTON James EVANS Jane Manchester, Newton Heath, All Saints Manchester 101/1/121 To order this one, you would need to order through Manchester Records Office, not the GRO. (They have different references) |

I can't find a James anywhere (between 1825 and 1840) with a father Isaac. I did find one Christened in Jul 1829 with father Thomas, as on Marriage cert. The age on the marriage cert could be a badly written 48? |

This might be his baptism: British Isles Search Results | Download | Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JAMES CHORLTON Male Event(s): Birth: Christening: 22 SEP 1839 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England Death: Burial: Parents: Father: THOMAS CHORLTON Family Mother: MARY I got this from www.familysearch.org - there's no James around the right date with a father called Isaac. nell |

I would say, given the ages on all the censuses, that the marriage is wrong. |

This is the only birth in Lancs for James Chorlton b. within a year of 1838: Name: Chorlton, James Record Type: Births Quarter: December Year: 1837 District: Chorlton County: Lancashire Volume: 20 Page: 94 You could order this cert and see if it says Thomas on it, or you could order it stating that you only want it if it says Thomas on it. If you do that, the GRO will charge £3 for checking, but you won't get the cert if the name isn't Thomas. You could try finding James on 1841 census and see what his parents' names are there. You could look for a baptism for him on the IGI. nell |

I see James and Jane married Sep 1878: Match Quality Name Year Quarter Record Type District County Chorlton, James 1878 September Marriages Bolton Lancashire COOK, Jane 1878 September Marriages Bolton Lancashire If James had had his 40th birthday before the wedding, he would be born 1838, if he was going to be 41 after the wedding he would have been born 1837. nell |

Albert Edward Chorlton born 13 may 1881,parents James Chorlton and Jane Cook (maiden) marriage cert. James Chorlton age 40 and Jane Cook age 30 James' father is Thomas Chorlton. If someone told you James' father was called Isaac, you need to know where they got this information, and see if that James is a connection. I would say that if James' marriage cert says his father is Thomas, then his father is Thomas! When did James and Jane marry? You can work out from James' age then which year he was born and then look for a James born to a Thomas. nell |

Carol Please give some details - I take it the father's name on the son's birth and marriage certs isn't the same. Please say which names you have - unless you have a very unusual surname or first names, this may just be a case of ordering the wrong cert in error. nell |
