UPDATE I'm getting weird vibes re this, We were in contact with daughter Lillian just before she died in 2002. She had been very reluctant to talk about her mother to us and we didn't push. We didn't know she had died until her son contacted us from florida when he had been reading thro her papers and found our e-mail, contacted us but we've had no reply to our mail to him. Thinking of this and looking at the 2 censuses I am beginning to think that Stefania is not Stella at all. Maybe Stefania was Peters 1st wife and they either divorced or she died. that would explain the reluctance of daughter Lillian to speak to us of her mother, Stefania was not her 'mother' at all. I think I need to find the marriages of Peter Ciurczak somewhere between 1909 and 1918 Help!! Katarzyna

Richard, belated thanks for that, it does help if you can read the headings clearly, mine are blurred and very black I can only make out a few words. Using the guessimetric system on this one :) Crista, thanks so much for doing this. Can you send me the source/ref on Peter Ciurczak's birth please, it could be him, but he was born in Poland. Also is it possible to e-mail me a copy of the 1920 census page or let me have the ref please. I will e-mail my addy if you say you can. It looks like they were married around 1916 - 18 then. Anyway I can look this up? Stellas name was Stefania Pszeniczna/y in Poland, she must have changed her name in US Katarzyna

It's Franklin Street. It still exists today. Peter's been married before. Look at the Age When First Married column. Crista

Pa means that papers were filed for citizenship (i.e. declaration of intent), but that the person was not a full naturalised citizen at the time of the census. Cheers, Richard

Thanks Richard, Studying the columns again it looks like PA for Peter, above the AL for Stella, any ideas?

''Al'' means that she was alien (i.e. not a naturalised citizen), and the ''yes'' in the next column means that they could speak English. Richard

I'll have a look at that. Peter was born later than that so it won't be him. No zip code From the census Peter immigrated 1911 and Stella 1914. There are two other columns for immigration but i can't fathom the headings , looks like AL(?) in one column for Stella and Yes in the 3rd column for both of thm.
