I now have an address for Pratt, living at OLD CHESTER ROAD, Birkenhead, please could someone look up for me the name kingsley or william pratt, living there on the the censuses and his wife who's name is Mary she was a maid kingsley pratt was a BS from sierra leone when he was 12 -14 I think he came over with an Estate owner and worked as a Valet(t) I think he died before 1901 as he is not on this census, many thanks

There is a William Pratt in Beakwith Rd Birkenhead in 1891, A cousin of Joseph West

Dont take this the wrong way, not sure how to put it there are 3 Pratts from Sierra leone on the 1871 census: Alexander Pratt abt 1841 Sierra Leone Ward Room Cook Vessels Royal Navy Henry W Pratt abt 1855 West Abrica, Sierra Leone Pupil Enfield Middlesex Morgan Pratt abt 1844 Freetown, Sierra Leone Cooper Clea Vessels Royal Navy

not sure when he was born, but his wife was born in 1855, (says 46 on 1901 census)so presuming it would be early 50's or late 40's His daughter sara ann pratt was born on the same road in 1877,, as he came from sierra leone, and his exact age is unknown, however he did go on to be a captain of a ship but drowned at sea, Jess, is there anyone else living with him at the time?

the name Kingsley is a new one on me, as sarah annes father on the marriage certificate is william, however in a recent letter to my father it says his name was kingsley, it could be both or it could be he took his name from his master who could have been called Kingsley< are there any kingsleys living in birkenhead!! grasping at straws now!!

jess I think his wifes maiden name was davies, (mary)married in birkenhead in 1875 june quarter, (if these are the right ones) she was a maid, she moved to pwllheli after she was widowed, I have the 1901 census with her on, apparently Kingsley was educated by his Boss (the one that brought him over) I'm sorry thats all the info I have at present

I have those ones thanks, jess I know we have looked for these before, and we found sarah ann pratt, However I'm trying to find william pratt, living Somewhere with his wife, as I had new information I thought it might be useful to see what else came up As I now had an address I thought it could be done I am not looking for anyone after 1901 as I have all the information there, thanks to everyone for helping, It is just william(kingsley) that I am looking for at an address somewhere!

tracy we know you had the 1901- but you only posted half the info it contains, You have found what you thinkis the right marriage, send for the cert. send for one of the childrens brith certs, see who the father is named as . At the moment we dont really know if kingston Existed or was really a william. the ref i have given you for William pratt in birkenhead, You ask who is with him- please read my answer posted at the time. That info is there

using the info in the reply above this, you hunt out the right man in 1881 and i'll se where i can take it after/before 1881. But that will be tommorow now if you cant find him, then nor can we jess

jess, I did read but only half the information was there, I'm obviously not as good as you at all this, but we all have to start somewhere..............I shall check out william H Pratt, he looks like the most likely candidate so far, I shall send off for another birth certificate and the marriage certificate and see what it says, thanks all
