I am searching for my great grandma ANNIE BROWN. I have her marriage certificate in 1904 December Nottingham to Joseph Bacon. It gives her age as 21, making her year 1883.Fathers name Walter a lamplighter. Her death cert in 1957 gives her age as 75, year of birth 1882.83. There is only one census with an Annie, father Walter. So assuming its the correct one. Looking at birth certificates, there are 2 possibles, both June 1882, making her age on wedding cert wrong. Do you think I should go ahead and buy them assuming that her age at marriage was incorrect? I'm really guessing that she was from Nottingham so it could be any of the others. Dont want to have to wait for 1911 census to be sure!!! Sorry its longwinded!!! Thanks, Laura x

Laura Is that the Walter brown with a very large family from Bulwell? Victor

Hi Victor, its the one with wife Eliza in 1901, they do have a big family. It gives Walters occupation as Shoe maker. Laura x

I would just order one of them from the GRO giving the father's name as Walter as a reference checking point. If the one you order does not have a father called Walter, they will not send out the certificate and will refund you £4, so this means that you only loose the £3 that they charge for checking. If it's the right one they will send out the certificate and it will still only cost you £7. If the first one you order is not the one, then you will know that the second one should be. Kath. x

Thanks Kathleen, I think thats what I'll have to do. I have one of them already which is wrong, it doesnt have the GRO number on for me to avoid it and order the other though! Thanks to you both, Laura x

Hi Victor, only definite stuff I have is death cert and marriage...address in 1904 is Mersey/Mercey street no town given. Father Walter and her age 21. They married at Registery office so no clues to town there. Husbands address was Ingram Road with no town given. Searched all census and the one mentioned earlier was the only Annie in Notts with father Walter. Alot of guess work I know!

Laura Not any more I left some 44 years ago. I was born in Ruddington and then moved to Cinderhill until I left in 1961. i now live in Oxfordshire but go to Ruddington to see my Mother and Sister. I got the information from a book I found at one of the Genealogy fairs, it does not have a date on it unfortunately but I think it may be from the 60's 70's, so there may be a good chance that it is still there. Fantastic find as it covers all the areas around Nottingham including Ruddington. Victor
