Alistair Report 29 Jan 2005 18:12

Hi Linda, We are tearing our hair out! We can't find Fanny (or Frances) Knight (or Waldon) in the 1871 census. She was born in Devon and we have found her as a 6 year old in the 1851 census. But in 1869 she was in a workhouse in Bethnal Green having an illegitimate son, Alfred James (my great grandfather). Where was she and her baby son Alfred James in 1871 census? By the 1881 census she and Alfred can be found living in Mile End Old Town, London, living with Isaac Waldon - they have both taken his name, but we can't find a marriage. The years between 1851 and 1881 (apart from giving birth in a work house) are an absolute mystery with this woman. We have "chatted" on threads with several people and really are no further forward. Any help would be VERY gratefully received. Trina and Alistair Balharrie
