Familyrelatives site - can we trust the results??.

I spent quite a long time looking up someones marriage request this morning on the familyrelatives site. Even though I took the search 10 years further on than likely I came up with zilch. I tried with both couples names from 1910-1926. However I just noticed on this board that the person concerned has got the marriage ref. I went back to familyrelatives and entered exactly the same requests as before and this time I got two hits - one of which was the correct one. I then checked back on my account where they list the names you have looked for as I was going to send them a complaint as the entries show if you found anything. BUT the look ups werent listed, except one for the groom from 1921 - 26. This makes me wonder that when those of us who have entered known dates and got zero results may have in fact been misled by faulty programing of the site????

i too have searched with correct names and dates etc and fount none of them, im not much for the site, also i dont like it how you get charged to look at each page with out clicking on the image, so ????.

Yes, thats right, I noticed I got charged just for the results page. I entered my dads birthday in 1914 it says zero! and my mums in 1920. I entered hubbys Great Gran which I had the bmd reference for and that came up zero aswell! Then as I said above, in the morning I get zero results in the afternoon I got two results for the couple Hollie was looking for. Something not right here.

i agree heather, to me its a money making site, if it wasnt it wouldnt charge you for the search pages as well, it would only charge you for the image. This is an expensive hobby, so to me we all try and keep the costs down and help one another, i put all my leftovers from 1837 on another site so people can look at it. i dont think i'll be using family relative site again, unless they change etc :-)

No, Im not questioning the accuracy when you get a result - just why a lot of us have received zero results when we know the peoples exact dates. I have a free bmd result which comes up zero on the familyrellies site. I shall email them again.

Nicola - for a money making site, it's not done a very good job for them over the weekend - they must have lost an awful lot of money due to their "glitch" which has given out thousands in free credits. Hry ho - nice to be on the winning side sometimes.

Jools yes i know that part but didnt want to mention it, LOL, all i can say to the people who looked is i hope they saved every page they went on ,as that will not only help them in the furture but will help others as well. :-) :-) i save every page i go on so have loads on comp which when i have time will be put on another site to help others :-) :-)

Thought I'd let you all know! There is no such thing as free credits. Look up your account details and all those Free credits have been invoiced. Oh well!!

i heard the same johnathon, but also alot of people seemed to have not filled in there details correctly, so for those who did it this way they defo got free credits etc.

Jonathon The thing is, it also says that payment is by credit card or debit card only Margaret

believe me, what you believe to be free credits will come back to haunt you.

What I wonder is, when we get zilch results, its not that the site hasnt found any but it just hasnt searched at all. Hence, no record of my searching on my account. Perhaps its something to do with that timing out pain in the butt they have. If the program is taking a while for a search perhaps it times out and just stops the search?

when you are searching for known relations over 50 found on all outher sites and it comes back with nothing, that tells me not to bother ,never mind paying for credits, let hope they sort it all out fast, but i am staying well clear

Heather Report 24 Jan 2005 17:12

You had the same problem then. I know that they say 1921 onwards is only part transcribed but they say pre that is fully transcribed. I am seriously thinking it is a problem with that timing out program feature that just stops the search and gives us zero results.

The other thing I noticed as well is no age at death/birth date on some of the records where I'd expect one or the other to be (1880-1945). Not ALL of them, just a few had a blank space which meant I couldn't elimiate them or confirm if they were mine. I then had to go into the same qtr on 1837 to check the info so technically have paid twice to get the info that should have been included in the one place! The info was there on 1837 so it's not a problem with the GRO index Lou

I purchased units, and have had quire a few successes since joining. And dont forget that even tho you have 'paid' to view - if you read the small print, you will see that you can then go back to that search via 'Your Account - View Account details' - scroll to the bottom of the screen - you can continue to view it free of charge for 3 months after initial search.

Unknown Report 24 Jan 2005 17:31

I don't think anyone is doubting its 'success', it's the question of reliabililty. They're advertising the site as 1866-1920 fully transcribed when its either a) NOT b) timing out before the results have generated There's also the issue of information missing from their records that is available on the GRO indexes. WHY, when the info has to come from the same source?

Heather

Heather Report 24 Jan 2005 18:14

Yes, there is obviously something wrong with the site. As you say, its either not searching when you think it is (hence zero results when next time you find them) and/or they just havent got the same info as GRO.
