I have a page from the 1851 census with my relatives on it, but I can't make out completely what it says. There are about three names, a job and a place that I can't read - not much at all, but if someone could help me I'd be really grateful. Let me know your email address and I will send the small image file to you. Thank you! |

I think the first surname is Perry, the third one could be Franks? Update - just seen Nell's last message, yes, could be Grant. |

I've changed my mind about the occupation - I think it says General Practitioner. The P isn't very clear. |

Could be general practitioner, but was that term in use in 1851? The initials could be M.D.[doctor of medicine] and something else. are there any clues - do you have any idea who these people are? Is the address "The Surgery" or something helpful? nell |

The three women are servants in my family household - so General Practitioner would make sense, being able to afford three, wouldn't it? The address is just Charles Street, nothing helpful I'm afraid! |

'WERE' servants, not 'are', obviously...oops. The initials could be M.D.C.I?L. So: Elizabeth Perry. Jane ?Deb.. (Could it be 'Web..'? Mary Evans. And 'General Practitioner'. |

Kate Somewhere there must be a directory of GPs for that time which would list him - if that is what it says! Alternatively, a street directory would give his occupation if he was of sufficient standing to employ 3 servants? nell |
