The Free BMD website is not yet complete, so their marriage will sooner or later appear, but if you would like, to save you waiting I can lookup any Christian Schiller marriages at my library tomorrow from 1867 backwards. My library holds the entire country's civil registration indexes. I'll see what I can do. Regards

Hi Zoe I have them in the 1881 1891 and 1901 but not in the 1871 you are a star.... thanks.. I think the name you have found is a mistranscription of LEAR who was born in 1872 in Shadwell and the thing i find starange is that the addy they were living at (Perservance Place) Mary Anns future husband John MERLOCK lived at number 16 in the 1881 census!!! Thank you both so much for all your offers regards Louisa

Am I missing something here ..? if you know when the children were born then you know the parents names ??????? Birth certificates have both parents names on them ... including Mothers Maiden name. Find the birth certs and you have your answer ... the fathers name on the birth certs may be different to what you expect. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong here..or have missed something before ? Elaine :-0

Louisa so you know, I just double checked those ages for you as they seemed to be a fair bit out and they have been transcribed correctly

Hi Elaine i have only managed to get the ages and places of birth from census returns, and the marriage cert for Mary Ann Schiller in 1896 and a copy of the death certs for both Selina and Christian. i recently found the death of Lear SCHILLER their son on freebmd and am awaiting the delivery of it. I have been unable to find the birth or bapts of the other children. I am sorry if i have upset you by asking for help Regards Louisa

Louisa, You haven't upset me asking for help chuck, I'm just confused as to where you got the births from. Sorry if I offended you, it wasn't intentional. Have you looked on 1837online ?? FreeBMD isn't complete but 1837online IS. It holds every record of BMD from 1837 - 2002 ... may be worth a look on there. Hope this helps ..if not ... just keep asking ! Elaine |:-0

Hi Louisa 1837 costs £5 to view 50 BMD images. Would you rather do that or have me look for you tomorrow for free at my library?

Louise Have you tried the records of the German churches in London? The Anglo-German FHS (www.art-science(.)com/agfhs) have produced fiches covering the period you are interested in, and I checked the one I have, which is for St. Paul's German Reformed Church in Hooper Square, Whitechapel. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything under 'Schiller' for you. Sorry - but at least it's one more place you know not to try again! Good luck and best regards Helen

Hi Louisa I checked the marriage registers at my library from 1861 to 1871 and there were no Christian Schiller marriages, sorry. But when I got back home, I looked at Miss Zoe's copy of their census details and found that Christian was 32 in 1871, so he'd of been born in about 1839, hence he'd of been 62 when he died in 1901 and not 55. So he could of got married in the 1850s. I only realised that when I got home.

Hi Ben thanks for spending the time searching.... no worries. An uncle of my hubby who has been trying to research the SCHILLER and MERLOCKS has got the death cert and he has sent me all the details and it does state he was 55 when he died. Are the certs known to be wrong or are they pretty acurate. I am very greatful for what you have done today and hope you had some luck on your own research Thank you again Louisa

Hi Louisa Beware of ages given on death certificates, especially if a friend or neighbour registered the death, and they may of not known the deceased's true age, so just gave an educated guess. Who registered Christian's death? If it was his wife or a family member, they could of been right, and the age given in the 1871 census was wrong.
