Jackie, Just had a while in the library. Only managed to look through North Muskham up to now - parking time ran out and I always end up feeling slightly off looking at the films! Results so far: Marriage: 9 June 1859 John Wing 22 Shoemaker born Goole Sarah Antcliffe 22 Spinster born N. Muskham Fathers: Anthony Wing - Shepherd Richard Antcliffe - Labourer Witnesses: William Wing Ann Worsdale?? Baptism: 18 Sept 1859 John Henry John & Sarah Wing Shoemaker N. Muskham 13 Jan 1861 Anthony William John & Sara_ Wing Shoemaker N. Muskham (The spelling of Sara/h changed) Burial: May not be the same one but: 24 Sept 1864 Richard Antcliffe Age 57 Labourer. There are dozens of Antcliffe entries in the registers - I could go back and look for Sarah's baptism around 1837 if you want me to, to give you her parents. I will try to have another session to look at South Muskham another day, but can't say when yet. Hope this is of some use. Elisabeth

Elisabeth

Elisabeth Report 5 Mar 2004 11:26

Jackie, If I can, I will have an hour or two in the library next week and look at the parish records for North and South Muskham. The Navenby records won't be there though. I'll mail you anything I find if you want to have the details. (I'm going to print this thread off so I don't forget.!) Elisabeth

I live in Devon, so a long way from Nottingham! My husband's ggreat grandfather, John Wing and wife Sarah (Antcliffe) lived in Blacksmiths lane, Navenby with Sarah's family. In 1901 John was living in Boothby Graffoe in Village Street with his second wife. He was buried at St Peters in Navenby. Would love any pictures of these places. John's father was Anthony Wing and as far as I can make out , if I have the right Anthony, he died in Sedgebrook but again, was buried at Navenby - died of natuaral decay of nature at the grand old age of 83!!!! There must be family plots somewhere there in the churchyard. My husband's ggrandfather, William Anthony Wing moved to Battersea around 1885 although grew up in S Muskham. There are so many Wings and Antcliffes that go back to around 1700 and before, but as all the names and places are all within a 5 or 6 mile radius it gets really confusing. The only real way to find who's who would be to go through all the parish records ! Jackie

Hi Jackie I am afraid I cannot remember which was yours. You will have to sort by dates. Any reference with N is Nottingham, N-P is Nottingham St Peter, N=P is Nottingham St Patrick RC. If you get stuck I will send the index.

Jackie Report 4 Mar 2004 19:53

Elisabeth Report 4 Mar 2004 18:12

Jackie, I have a "Newark and District Directory 1957-58". There are no Wing families in North or South Muskham at that time but there are a few in Newark. Would you like the list - it is only the head of household names. (I know this would be a jump in years but could be of some use in the future.) Elisabeth

Geoff Report 4 Mar 2004 17:08

I hope (within the next couple of weeks) to have death (1813-1900) and marriage (1600-1837) records for the area known as "Graffoe Deanery", 36 parishes lying SW, S and SE of Lincoln, including Navenby. I will post a message when I am able to do lookups. If you're still stuck at that point, let me know.

Thanks Robin! Glad to hear you didn't work with above John. He died in 1907!!!! (as did his father Anthony) Could very likely have been a relative you worked with - still trying to track down what happpened to the Wings that stayed in Notts. Like most families then-had 10-13 children each and so the numbers multiplied. Trying to pin down those that lived, married, their offspring and those that died -plus those that got lost along the way with nothing transcribed on IGI/LDS. Odd ones keep popping up and new families appearing. Was hoping that parish records woud turn something up and clarify one or two mysteries. Trouble is -with so many Mary's, Sarah's, Williams and Johns hard to know which come from which family with just marriages to go on. Hear you got in touch with Karen. We share the same ggrandfather.Nice to have someone to share our research and ideas with -also the cost of certificates. She's very good on E Riding and Lincs. Will let you know if Samuel is one of mine. Name isn't one used by the Wings but you never know. Jackie

Does anyone have parsh records for either of these two parishes. I am trying to find any info on the Wings, initially from Navenby. Part of the family moved to N/S Muskham. Many thanks Jackie
