Hi not sure if this is possible as I dont have a place of birth for either of them but am after the families of Henry GILES born c1832 (poss. Buckinghamshire) and his wife Rosetta SUMMERS born c1837. They married in 1859 in Buckingham. And also one more if not too much - Matilda SENEY/SEENEY born 1842 in Brackley Northampton (m. George Spatcher in 1864 in Buckingham). Many Many Thanks Danielle

This looks like Rosetta's sister Amelia in 1841 (although the 1841 doesn't give relationships I would think that Thomas and Mary are the parents):- Name: Amelia Summers Age: 4 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1837 Gender: Female Where born: Northamptonshire, England Civil Parish: Whitfield Hundred: Tindale (West Division) County/Island: Northamptonshire Country: England Street address: Whitfield Occupation: Father an Agricultural Labourer Registration district: Banbury Sub-registration district: Banbury Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Amelia Summers 4 Ann Summers 20 Elizabeth Summers 1 George Summers 15 Hannah Summers 15 John Summers 13 Mary Summers 40 Nk Summers 2 weeks Richard Summers 7 Robert Summers 9 Thomas Summers 40 William Summers 11 Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 804; Book: 23; Civil Parish: Whitfield; County: Northamptonshire; Enumeration District: 2; Folio: 5; Page: 4; Line: 6; GSU roll: 438878. Kathleen I think Amelia is Rosetta's aunt, from the 1851 image. Suzy

Suzi, You are right of course - I should have checked more carefully. Danielle, Ignore my last reply - Thomas and Mary are Rosetta's grandparents, not her parents. Kath. x

I wonder if this could be Rosetta's birth reference (it's the right time to make her 2 in the 1841 census and right place for the one in 1851 census):- Female Summers June qtr. 1839, Brackley, XV, 228 Kath. x

Well done Kathleen. Looks promising. I have found a death record for a Rosetta Giles (married name) for 1879. Wonder if it's her? That makes her DOB 1837. Fascinating one. Deaths Dec 1879 Giles Rosetta age 42 Buckingham 3a 376 Suzy

Ages on death certificates are notoriously often wrong. I have some where the age is out by up to five years. It depends on how well the informant knew the deceased, and that long ago people didn't celebrate birthdays in the same way as we do now, so many people really didn't know how old they were. The age on my grandmother's death certificate and her headstone is two years out. Must go to bed now - hope Daniella comes back to the thread tomorrow for the extra information. Good night, Kath. x

I appreciate so much all the help I have received so far but would appreciate a little more if possible. I have just found on the IGI that Thomas and Mary had a daughter Sarah born 1819 in Brackley, I wonder if the 1841 Rosetta 'Simmers' and Sarah Simmers, could be mother and daughter, and therefore Sarah the daughter of Thomas and Mary? Would appreicate your thoughts on this. Danielle

Suzy Report 9 Aug 2007 12:25

Hello again Danielle It does seem possible that the Sarah 'Simmers' in the workhouse in 1841 with a 2 year old Rosetta is the one you have found on the IGI. I did try to find a marriage or death for Sarah late last night, but drew a blank. Will have another look. Would be great to find out what happened to her. Were you aware of a sibling for Rosetta (Thomas age 1 in 1841)? Also, I think George (age 60 in 1841) might be Sarah's Grandfather. What do you think? Let us know. Suzy

Hi Suzy Thank you for the interest in this. I found on the IGI that THOMAS did have a daughter Sarah born 1819, so think she is his daughter and yes I agree it seems very likely Rosetta and Thomas are her 2 children. Now appears Sarah married a Levi Franklin in 1845. I am going to check the IGI now to see if Thomas snr is the son of a George (who may be shown in the 1841 with Sarah). Thanks again Danielle
