Elizabeth is my Mums only living relative from the Redshaw family and now that we have this info we have more chance of finding her. I am absolutely gob smacked! Thanks to everyone else who helped it is nice to know that there are so many nice people on GR. Best of luck to everyone in their future research and once again, many thanks.

KathleenBell Report 25 Aug 2007 21:43

If the marriage Jennifer found is the right one then this is Elizabeth's birth:-

Elizabeth M. Redshaw, mmn Crawley
June qtr. 1948, Gateshead, 1a, 1268.

Have you tried phoning Gateshead register office to see if they will look in their records just in case the marriage was missed off the list sent to the GRO.

They won't usually look up marriages without you knowing exactly where the marriage took place, but since you DO know this, I think they will probably look it up for you.

This is the address:-

Gateshead Register Office
Civic Centre, Gateshead, NE8 1HH

Hi everyone who is trying to help me. My Mum said Elizabeth had to have been born between 1947 and 1954 as she lived in Gateshead then and the marriage took place whilst my Mum lived in the area. John Married a second time to a Stella Bond i don't know when but it was before 1965. If it wasn't for the fact that my Mum and her sisters went to the wedding i would thing that Ellen and Elizabeth didn't exist! I have been trying to find them for 2 years now.

I've looked at the first and second quarters of 1951 - 1955 and I can't find an Elizabeth Redshaw birth in those years.

How sure are you of the year?

Hi Scarlet,
I know they married because my Mum was at the wedding. The marriage only lasted about 1 year and John Never saw his daughter again after they split as Ellen moved away. There is no one else alive who can remember Ellen's name.

You wont find it in the records office- you need to trawl ancestry marriages - are you sure they married?

How sure of dates are you?

If anyone is visiting Durham record office i am looking for the following info: John Redshaw born 1924 Low Fell Gateshead, looking for marriage details of first marriage. He married a Ellen Unknown, trying to find her surname, also looking for details of their daughter Elizabeth Redshaw born around march 1953c, Not sure where Ellen came from but think it was Gateshead. They married at St John's Church, Sheriff Hill, Low Fell, Gateshead. I Have not been able to find any trace of their marriage or Elizabeth's birth but know they existed. Ellen was around 6 months pregnant when they married.
