Titus and Andy

Thanks for the replies.

My Matilda was born Ennis and I too had found Elizabeth (who I think becomes my g grandmother) in Smethwick but hadn't made the connection with a possible Matilda marriage.

Is it possible to get looks up over the phone from the record office as I am some way away from Smethwick?

Andy's George is the right age (and my Matilda seems to have had her George at 16 and before she married) but the other children don't look right. Might be worth finding his birth cert to double check.

Thanks again for you trouble.

It isn't obvious from the 1861 census exactly where George was born - could be Dudley or Rowley Regis

Geoff

Thanks for the response. It seems that there were two quite distinct Hackett families in Rowley at the time and I think Josiah may have been from the other one!

However you have given me some further lines to pursue. The death in 1873 would give her a birth year of 1825 which is a bit too early I think but the 1913 might be worth a look.

I shall certainly do some more searches using the surname variants. Thanks

Hi Webster, I know this site, it was where the suggestion about emigration was made, but thanks for the reply.

I am trying to follow William and Matilda Hackett of Rowley Regis/Dudley beyond the 1861 census.

They born were c1835 and married in 1856. The 1861 census has them in Rowley with 3 kids, George, Elizabeth and John and William as a coal miner. Searches on Ancestry have failed to show them any later than 1861. There is a possible death cert for William in 1862 but with such a common name it could be an expensive elimination! I can not find Matilda anywhere.

It has been suggested that they may have emigrated, I don't know how to look up emigrations from that time. Any help greatly appreciated.
