I think this lady married in 1910ish to someone with the surname Johnson maybe his name was John.
I thonk it was in west yorkshire maybe Pontefract.

Now, what does this mean???


a) you got the names wrong

b)you got the date very wrong

(Possible becasue freebmd is only really good coverage upto about 1919, they're just beginning to get into the 1920s)


c) The couple didn't marry legally

You are probably right about a dodgy marriage i cant find a thing .
On my grandads birth its JohnT Johnson1921 mothers maiden Steele thats all i have.

Hi Alexandra

Are you saying you have your grandfather's birth certificate? Is the father not named on it? Generally that would mean that the child was born out of wedlock....the father would have had to have been present to have his name on the cert. I'm now wondering if Elsie got married between John's birth and the registration of the birth.

If you have the cert, could you give us the details please

I almost always use the wild card symbol (*), typing in only part of the name.

I did try Els* in case Elsie was mis-spelled ............... but I never thought of doing it with Steel*.


I should have done it ........ Els* Steel* would have found the marriage!


The only excuse I have is that I was in a hurry before going out for the evening

This marriage didn't actually appear on FreeBMD....I had to go trawling through them year by year on Ancestry! So don't be too harsh on yourself ;-))))))))
