Thanks so much for the efforts you have made.

I wondered if her name was Brocklebank, because their first born, Thomas had the middlename of Brocklebank. This is quite unusual, I think. I know he married Jane Satterthwaite (not Hathawaite as IGI states - thx Reg) in 1881 in Houghton le Spring. I have their son, Joseph's birth cert. I can't find a Margaret Brocklebank.

How common was is for people to be registered with one name ie Linchey and then change it to another, Lynch?

I will keep digging on both Brocklebank Lynch & Linchey!

Finding one of the children's births and getting the cert would give you her maiden name and make searching for a marriage easier.

When was the first child born?

Have you checked on freebmd ,also one of the childrens birth certs will tell you mum's maiden name

I am trying to trace the marriage of my g,g,g grandfather Michael Lynch. I believe he was born approx 1835 and married Margaret. I do not have her surname. They had 4 children, Thomas, John, Sarah & Betsy. I have traced them through to the 1871 Census, when they were living in Whitehaven, Cumberland. He was born there.
I would really like to know Margaret's name and when they were married.

Any help would be gratefully received.
