Hi Brenda, with reference to the information given by Reggie about death details of Amy Jane, Toxteth Park. I did contact the department you gave me and they said they would get back to me in 48 hours, they did that, well Toxteth Park Cem did to tell me that they didn't have records on the date I was looking for so I needed to go to the Liverpool Record Office Direct. I then left it for a while as I am unable to get there with my two young children but on contacting the records office by email they said they could look it up for me without me having to go! They sent an email on the 17Th October saying I'm in a queue so I'm waiting on this information. Thanks again for helping me, I'll let you know.

Thanks Siobhan and Joan, I never had any of this census information before! I bet you can't believe that I've been searching for this information for years, trouble with me is that I disregard a lot of information because I am unsure that the information I find is correct due to the differences in name spellings and date of births ect, it takes fab people like yourselves to unravel it!! I really am still a novis You are both fantastic, If you get any further information please let me know, I'll will print these off and show my grandad Benjamin. x

Julia,

I don't mean to confuse you--only give you options to think about. No records were found when I did a search for Jeannette, Janet, or Jeanette but I did find this record (again assuming the mother died in 1900). Could these be William's parents?

I'm afraid my family history stops at William Robinson's father also William Robinson a Labourer on his wedding cert in1886, but do not know his mothers name or siblings sorry. Is there anymore information you would like?

Joan

Joan Report 26 Nov 2007 14:35

Julia,

I found a Richard and Ellen Robinson residing in Tranmere in 1891. It listed Richard's occupation as a mariner--is this any relation to your William Robinson?

Joan

Julia

Julia Report 26 Nov 2007 14:23

I don't have a middle name for him sorry, I do know that William and Ann Jane had five children:

ELLEN VALENTINE (NELLIE) 14/02/1889 - Birkenhead, Tranmere - reg 13/03/1889- Mother Ann Jane Robinson formerly Mottram - address 1 Cobden Street, Tranmere - Father William Robinson - Ships Steward

WILLIAM (No info found)

JANET (JEANETTE) 12/05/1891 - Toxteth Park, Liverpool - reg 29/06/1891 - Mother Ann Jane Robinson formerly Mottram - address 115 Grafton Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool - Father William Robinson - Ships Steward

BENJAMIN (My Great Grandad) 3/10/1896 - Toxteth Park, Liverpool - reg 18/01/1897 -Mother Ann Jane Robinson formerly Mottram - Father William Robinson - Ships Steward
SDRI W Robinson 33 Essex Street, Toxteth Park.

THOMAS (No info found)

The story goes that Ann Jane died in or after childbirth after hearing that william had gone missing whilst working at sea around 1900 to 1906 ish. I've have found William and family on the 1891 Census, William being from North Shields, Durham - Born 1863. But unable to locate him on any other Census (very strange!!). Have also been unable to locate Ann Janes death details although am waiting on that info from liverpool - may be down as Amy Jane - 1900 Toxteth Park. Sorry this has baffled me for years!! Hope this helps x

Julia,

Do you have any other information regarding William Robinson such as a middle name, name of children? Did he stay in U.S. prior to death? I found a record for a William Robinson, inmate at San Quentin, CA state prison. I checked the 1900 and 1910 US census for William and Ann Robinson. Did he and Ann travel together with their children?

Yes! he did sail between those dates, I've been unable to locate him on any ship, have him down as a ships steward on his wedding cert in 1886 and onwards on his childrens birth certificates, he is said to have died at sea around 1900 to 1906 give or take both ways.

Have you searched the passenger lists on Ancestry or Ellis Island, if it's America you are interested in. Also Ships Lists has passenger lists for Australia and USA.

Julia

Julia Report 26 Nov 2007 12:31

Please could anybody direct me to a good researcher I could pay to search the passenger lists in Kew? I'm at such a dead end and with a seven month old and toddler in tow it's impossible for me to travel such a distance.

Thank you x
