Kenrick Purfield - my ggg grandfather - had a long and interesting career at sea spanning action/service in the Zulu Wars, Second Opium War, Australian station (Catalpa Incident) and West Indies. Also present when the Captain was lost off the Bay of Biscay. Had a tragic death on TS Mercury when an anchor chain came crashing down on his head - with the inquest held in 1888. Happy to share his story with anyone interested. |
