I got my first contact with my own most mysterious family about a year ago. Of course, she turned out to know nothing at all. I'd discovered that my gr-grfather Monck was born Hill and had siblings including an Emma. My first and only contact is descended from Emma ... about whom she had no info, not even her surname ... other than having always been told she was a Miss Montmorency. Go figure.

She was def a Berry, marriage records give her name as Florence A G Berry, G being Goodman so she was still using it and her fathers name is given as Herbert Berry. She married grandad - Robert Thorogood in June q 1936. I have their marriage cert somewhere, tidied away for christmas!

I was reading that as "coconut" -- "cocoa nut" is an archaic version, I think. This description seems equally archaic ;) --

No father on birth cert and yes mothers maiden name Goodman. The birth address on my grans birth cert is 29 Church Street, I have looked at 1901 census but the family living there appears to be well established, suppose a lot can happen in 6 years. I was wondering where they made chocolate in those days being as Annies occupation was "cocoa nut stall assistant" unless it was a mis-spelling and she belonged to a fair!?!? :-)

Your Annie comes from away. There are no Goodman deaths and no marriages recorded in Sudbury up to the late 19-teens, and only three births other than Florence, all much earlier:

That was just me, attempting to find a Berry-Goodman marriage after Florence's birth, in case that was the reason for the name change, but to no avail.

Hi, I'm trying to find any info on my great grandmother Annie Goodman. Unsure of DOB place of Birth etc, all I have is my grandmothers birth cert which gives Annies occupation as a "cocoa nut stall assistant" ??? My gran was born 1907 in Sudbury and on her school records it gives her name as "Florence Annie Berry (nee Goodman)" I can on assume she was adopted.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
