That part of the index is searchable only by hand, as it were. There is no database with a search engine.

With a search engine, one can try various permutations and combinations and see what turns up. Without a search engine, one is stuck downloading pages -- 4 per year, for each possible surname, and then looking at the names. To do that for three potential surnames, all of which might be wrong, and "maybe Janet", it really just isn't sensible. For one thing, there'd be no way to tell, if one found a Janet Andrews or White even, whether it was the right mother. And then what would one do with the information?

It's all very Catch 22.

It's very uncommon for women of Mary's generation to revert to their birth surnames on divorce.

On remarriage, it would depend on whether the woman had reverted, I would assume.

The day when women stop doing these silly things with their names can't come too soon.

No news so far.

There is no Mary Charlotte Baker or White in the 1984-2005 death index.

For Mary Charlotte with other surnames, there are two with birthdate 1933 and three with birthdate 1932.

hello all, Kenneth & Mary were divorced,1957 or 58.I was kenneths second wife, but we allso divorced. and we had one daughter, so she has allways been in touch with her father kenneth, and her half brother a sister. and I still have contact with Colin.who now tells me that Marys seconed name was Charlotte. the shame is Kenneth would never talk about his first wife to me or his children, so we are starting from scratch,

Mary C. Andrews married Baker, Q4 1952, Ely, 4a 563.

This provides a middle initial. The marriage certificate would provide her age.

With the combination, her birth record might be found. With her birth certificate, her exact birthdate would be known.

With that, it might be possible to rule the possibility of her having died in or out.

There is no Mary C Baker, in that specific formulation, in the post-1984 death index. I have not checked images.

There is also no Mary C White.

Hi Valerie,

No problems, so you do not know for sure that Mary and Kenneth ever divorced ? Is there anyone who might know ?
You mention finding a marriage for a Mary Andrews to a White, was Andrews her maiden name ?, if so when she married she became a Barker so you should be looking for a marriage after 1958 for a Mary Barker to a ?
How do you know that Christine is dead ? from Kenneth or a relative ?
Bring us up to date so we can see if we can help in any way.

thank you all, Mary was born 1933, she spent some time in the wrens. she married a Kenneth Baker in 1952 in ely, she had two Children. colin 1953 christine 1955. she left Kenneth in 1958, the chidren never saw their mother again.we know she tried to see the children, but kenneth stoped her then moved away. he is now dead, and so is Christine, but Colin would love to see her or any children she had. she may have married again, Iooked up all the Mary Andrews, and found a White in 1968

Hi Kathryn,

I know what your saying.... but to anyone involved in searching for birth families on this site then these things would be obvious to us ,that she should state this info, we would know to go onto the tips board for the adoptees thread for help, and know of Joan's web site.
It maybe that Valerie did not want to give to much info on this thread in case Mary is alive.
It could also be that Mary just left her husband and with some more info she could be found through GRO records or elec rolls.
If you are stuck though Valerie then Joan is great, I have spoken with her several times and she is a mine of information, and has helped me when I have traced birth families.

Good Luck ! Valerie and keep up the good work Kathryn !

Hi Valerie,

Can you find out any more info the name is Mary Andrews born circa 1933 poss married a White, as both names are so common we would need more to go on to help.
Do you know the area of her birth or poss year of marriage, what about her son where and when was he born and when did he last have contact with her.
There are so many matches for this name on the elec roll that it would be impossible to find her without some extra information.

Well, Valerie, if you don't want to tell us where this woman was born and where she might be living, for starters, and anything else that would help to find her, I guess you'll just have to hope that she reads your message some day.

If you did want to give out a little information, you'd find that a lot of helpful people hereabouts, including me, would do what they could to help you find her. Not gonna happen this way.

By the way, your message here is not an "ad". It is a post on a message board for members of this site.

There is a corps of members who frequent the message boards for the specific purpose of volunteering to help other people track down both ancestors and living friends and family. I'm one small example, and something I helped on last week is one small example of what can be done here -- I found someone the information that reunited him with the father and grandmother he had never known. A couple of weeks before that I found the information that reunited a man in California with the birth mother in England he had never known. I've done a lot more, and others here have done way, way more than that. If you read a few threads here, you'll get an idea. And you can always add to this thread if you decide you'd like to take advantage of the skills and generosity of the people here.

What can we do to get people to write sensible posts??

Where did this happen -- the East End, Glasgow, Canberra, Moose Jaw? Did it happen in any particular year?

Did the White have a name? Did the two of them have parents? Where did you find this Mary? Is there a particular Mary you are looking for, and are you wanting to know whether this one is she? If so, what do you know about the one you are looking for?

Lawsy lawsy.
