HI Mary, Do you know his parents' names? There's a death for 'Horace Young' in 1971 NSW -parents John Darcy & Emma. ....... Do you have any idea which State he went to? ................. The NSW State Library has an 'Ask a Librarian' service (query form on-line) - they will check their records including electoral rolls etc. .............. You may need to check other States -they all offer same service. ........... Valerie (WA) |

I assume he's the Horace Young on the 1901 census with parents Edward and Annie. |

IF he use his full name at marriage, there is a marriage entry for Horace D Young married to Louisa Robin in Jun Q 1918 in Darlington Reg District 10a 79. |

With that information from Di, I can see a Horace Young in the Kennedy district of Queensland in 1930 and 1936, and a Louisa in the same district in 1925 and 1930. |

There is a record for him on the National Archives site; I'm not familiar with Naval records, so I don't know how much information it'll contain. You can download it for £3.50. |

Mary, the Brisbane City Council Cemeteries is on-line. Couldn't see Horace but there's a 'Louisa d2001 age 99yrs' ............ Best to follow up 'Horace David Young' from1923+ electoral rolls. (either NSW and/or QLD State libraries) .....Valerie |

If you go to www.naa.gov.au then select "recordsearch", then "search now as a guest user" then enter the keywords "Horace Robin Young", there's the naval records of an Andrew Robin Young. The docs are online and show that his father was Horace David & his mother was Louise, of Brisbane, QLD. He was born in Belfast on 14-Oct-1922. Must be the right family, especially as her maiden name was Robin, according to that marriage record! So your Horace must have been in Ireland before coming to Aus? |

Louisa, how does the citizenship thing work? |

Louisa - Horace would still be entitled to vote. UK citizens had that right up until the 1980's. Of course he may not have registered on the electoral roll, even if he had the right to do so! |

There is also a Belfast in Victoria (although its now called Port Fairy) so he might have been in Australia in 1923 but I do think that is the family migrating in 1927. Perhaps the reason he did not meet your father is that he was not in Australia then - perhaps someone got their wires crossed, or the stories mixed up. |

Yes, Diane, I have found almost all the old stories to have partial truths in them. |
