William George Treagust was the illegitimate son of Nellie Treagust, he was born in 1895 in Bedhampton in Hampshire. Aunt Rose ( Nellie's sister ) is said to have brought William up , she had a wholesale fruit & veg business in Havant again in Hampshire and her married name was Clark or Clarke. William joined the army in the first world war, he was injured and hospitalized in Whalley near Blackburn, here he met Mary Harbour whom he married in 1919. They settled in Blackburn and shortly after had a son called Victor, in 1923 they had another son who they called George. Four months later the marriage broke down and William left Blackburn, I am a son of George therefore William was my grandfather. Aunt rose kept in touch and once visited my grandmother and her sons in Blackburn and sent them Christmas presents, but in the 1940's all contact was lost with her. My brother and I went to the general registry office in London in 1989, we spent a day going through the death registers but this was fruitless. The following are facts we know from birth and marriage certificates: When William was born (7/11/1895) Nellie his mother was a domestic servant. when William was married in March 1919 his profession was soldier. When his son Victor was born in September 1919 Williams occupation was seaman, mercantile marine. When Williams next son George was born in August 1923 his occupation was domestic gardener. My dad who sadly died in May 2001 for as long as I can remember said he wondered what became of his dad , he used to point to my computer and say "you could find what happened to my dad with that". Maybe in a few years as more records become digital and available on the internet it will become easy but meanwhile can you help?
