Find Ancestors

I think I may have found the family of my great grandmother - Florence Horner (nee White). At the time of my grandfathers birth, Florence (or Flo) was living in camberwell, London.
The White Family, however seem to come from Eversley, Hants. THe Dad was called Robert, born 1859 I believe and the mum was called Sarah. They had 8 children. I am sure that this the right family - and just wondered if anyone could shed any light on the family - and why/how they ended up in London?
Mygreat grandmothers name was Florence Winifred White and at the time of the 1901 census they were all living with an elderly aunt by the name of Jane Bartlett in a place called The Green.

where is "The Green" ?

this looks like them in 1891 but no florence

hi - thanks for your help. It was in the 1901 census that Florence showed up. My great nan was Florence Winifred White - and we believed she was born in 1898. Well, I could only find ONE Florence Winifred White born from 1897-1900 - so this must be her. I also knew that her dad was called bert - which ties in with the Robert name. As a family, we knew nothing about her brothers and sisters - ;let alone she was one onf 8! She must have ended up in London, because her marriage is registered in Camberwell in 1923 - and she becomes HORNER. She then gave birth to my grandad in 1923 too! I think she caused a bit of a stir because she married a man nearly 30 years older than her (Frank Horner snr) and we knew little else about her. My Dad thought that the family lived in Tottenham London and maybe they did at some point. I still firmly believe that the Florence W WHite that I have found must be her due to the lack of other Florence Winifreds! I was just wondering how the family ended up in London and if anyone can tell me a bit more about the White family.

Suggest that you get the marriage certificate of Florence and Frank Horner, it may give as to the move to London, it should give the address of where they were living and occupations.

It looks as though they might have had to get married !

thanks for advice and help. Great Nan Flo was quite a character - and had a colourful past so we are led to believe. It seems strange that frank horner was SO MUCH older then her (he in his 50s and her in her 20s) and she never married again or had any other children other then my grandad frank. she kept her past a bit of a secret and no one even knew if she had brothers or sisters! I think it was definately a case of having to get married! My dad found her death cert and despite him always thinking that she came from london - it showed she was born in Aldershot. This is all quite similar - and it is hard to get as the locations/boundaries have changed over the years. i think that is strenghtens my belief this is the right family as no one had ever found/mentioned that they came from out london before. it is all good stuff!
