I am struggling to find anymore info on my great Grandmother Catherine Whittaker. I know her fathers name is William born 1873 don't know who her mother is. My mum and Grandad say they were from Yorkshire but not sure where.

Catherine married John Adlington born 1891 in Newington. They married on 18/2/1913 in St Mary's church, Southwark.

That is all i know, Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Nicky

Unfortunately we don't know where Catherine was born. The BMD records for 1893 show one from Blackburn, one from Nottingham and one from Derby - none from Yorkshire.

We are now wondering if she lied about her age when she was married - given that, and Sablon finding an 1895 Catherine birth in the same parish as she was married.

We have Catherine in the 1901 Census, but nothing for William - which means he's either dead or not living with his daughter. We have no record of her mother either. Not sure atm who she was with in 1901 but she was at 26 Comus PLace in Southwark.

Father occupation on marriage certificate is Labourer.

We have her father born 1873 but, ashamed to say, no source noted for that info as yet. Checking paperwork now.

Let that be a lesson to newbies.....

RECORD EVERYTHING PROPERLY!

Update - ignore reference to Comus Place, this is where Catherine's future husband lived in the 1901 census :-/

hi nicky
sorry i can.t find either catherine or her father or siblings on the 1901 census if infact they did come from yorkshire to london then the only thing i suggest isd that they were on the move between census but still i can.t find any of them on the 1911 census either so i suppose the ideal thing is to try & find out when they moved from yorkshire
good luck

Hi Jacky

I have plenty of info about my Adlingtons thank you. It is the Whittakers i am having a problem with. Catherine had brothers called William and John.

John had 10 siblings which incidently did also include a william and a John.
