Still trying to find Dorcas. Many people seemed to be unable to trace her before her marriage. Anyone out there know anything about Dorcas before she married Thomas Wilson in Hull in 1814?
Parents, family anything.

She's on a tree on Ancestry but it doesn't have parents' names. It says she's born abt. 1800, Hull.

Hi Margaret
I have a couple of contacts for Dorcas but none of us have anything before her marriage. Looks like we will have to try for a certificate.

But there are no certificates before 1837, Carole.

Hi Ellen
Yes that is the family. What I'm looking for is any information on the parents of Dorcas. On the 1861 census she is called Ann so maybe she had another name.
Thanks, Carole

Still looking for Dorcas Wilberforce prior to her marriage in 1814. Anyone got any info please?

Potty

Potty Report 15 Dec 2010 12:37

Could Dorcas have been married before? The original parish record might show if she was spinster or a widow when she married Joseph.

Carole

Carole Report 27 Dec 2010 15:40

Hi Potty
Not Likely as she was only about 16 or 18yrs when she married Joseph. Thanks anyway.

A physical look up please, anybody in Hull E Yorks for the marriage of Dorcas Wilberforce to Joseph Swithenbank Wilson on 11th Sept 1814 in Sculcoates Hull. I know it is a lot to ask.I live abroad and have done it before for someone who couldn't access records over here.
I am trying to determine the family of Dorcas who was born in Yorkshire about 1796. My only avenue is her marriage lines as no cert. is available for that date. I am hoping that her father's name will help to unblock some info.
I understand that the info is available on batch no MOO9152,sheet 00, source no0919441-443, printout call6909698, 1813 /1837 if that is of help to anybody.

Here's hoping and a big thank you if you can.

Carole

Is there a LDS family history centre near where you live? You can find out from familyseach site home page. You can ask them to obtain the film for you and check it yourself.

I notice that in the batch you quote there is a marriage for a Walter Wilberforce or Wilberfoss for the same year as Dorcas's. A relative possibly.

I am not sure if viewing the record will give you her father's name. Parish records for that period do not often give that info.

Carole Report 12 Jan 2011 20:51

Hi Potty
Thanks for that. I actually live in Gibraltar so no LDS. Some parish records give the info. as I have found them on line before in relation to something else.
I have looked at Wilberforce in Hull, births around 1800 to try and find a connection. The trouble is by 1841 census the family will not be together and my searches for relatives are bringing no response.
Maybe if I go to UK this year I can try.
Regards, Carole
