The name Winslade is Old English from the Anglo-Saxon period. Win was a persons name used in the same way as Ethelwine or Godwin and pronounced Wine. Lad is from the OE ge lad meaning difficult water course and the s between the two parts has crept in as one would use an apostrophe S nowadays to denote the personal ownership in the name i.e. Wine's difficult water course. Winslade appears in Domesday Book for Hampshire as there is a village near Basingstoke called Winslade which was a Saxon settlement. I studied Old English at Uni as part of my archaeology degree. The correct pronouciation is Wine's lad.
