Found that Angealina was 47 on the 1901 census so she was born in 1854ish give or take a yr, Cant find a birth record for her tho, but at least I know when she was born and on the 1901 census she was a widow.

I am a gold member but really don't know how to use site all that good I can heck records etc and have found many things out. I looked at Thomas and Angelines marrage under his name but not when I searched under hers to confirm It used to say who they wed etc or is it because it was a long time ago and records didn't hold that information? I have loads of info on my tree but my cousins (who av everything av left me in charge of this as they don't know either).

cagsie Report 13 Apr 2009 20:00

i really don't know if that is your george
but if marriage cert gives age leading to being born in 1879 and you think in monmouthshire then it's a good bet
and even if you strike unlucky at least you'll know

i have an ancestry subscription, keep 3-4 windows open at once so that i can have 1901 in one, 1891 in another etc so i can compare really quickly without having to go back and forth

remember to do broad searches eg wood (soundex, so you include variants like woods etc) b1879 +/- 5yrs monmouthshire

Pauline

Pauline Report 13 Apr 2009 19:50

Do you believe that the george frederick wood is the one born in newport on1879 if so I will order it, how do you find things so quickly i av some probs practice eh!!

cagsie

cagsie Report 13 Apr 2009 19:30

i don't think i've said she was married to george !

it seems that she was step-daughter (that could be wrongly transcribed) to thomas then married thomas

unless you get george's birth cert you'll keep going round in circles

have re-checked 1881 and george is def only age 2 (angeline 27 and thomas 53) don't know what your lady gave you but appears wrong

good luck in finding out

Pauline Report 13 Apr 2009 19:13

Don,t understand how can angelina be georges wife and thomas's wife also? the info I had given by a nice lady was 1881 George Wood 48yrs,
Angelina Wood 27yrs (I got the age gap too), James Wood 24, Thomas Wood 14, William Wood 8 and George Wood 2. O the 1871 It is Thomas Wood 48, James Wood 14, Thos P Wood 3, AngelinaSimmonds 20 and Christiana Simmonds 9. Where do I go from that. There is also a poss wedding match between Angelina Simmonds to Thomas Wood in Sep 1876 in Bristol do these dates work out to you?

cagsie

cagsie Report 13 Apr 2009 19:05

have had a good look thru 1901, 1891, 1881, 1871
there is a george wood b1879 newport with mother angeline (wid) in 1901
in 1891 and 1881 she is wife to thomas wood, but down as his step daughter angeline simmonds in 1871 (she was 30 years younger than him)
looks like angelina and thomas married in 1876 in bristol, where she was from

this seems best fit - think you really must get george's birth cert

cagsie

cagsie Report 13 Apr 2009 18:49

ah-ha, that clears that up a bit
what were the names of george's brothers and sisters?
that way we might locate them on census

Pauline

Pauline Report 13 Apr 2009 18:44

George Frederick Woods we believe was born in 1879 in monmouthshire he died in 1934 in Pontypool. Don't av birth certificate just the death. He was a Mason at the Steel Works when he died and was aged 54. Thomas shows no occupation on the wedding certificate of his daughters. Any ideas

cagsie

cagsie Report 13 Apr 2009 18:40

hang on, if george married in 1905, say at age 20 that makes him b1885, so his father thomas would be born 1865 at earliest i would have thought
so the one b1879 can't be right as he'd only be 26 himself at time of son's wedding!!
really need to know george's age at marriage

cagsie

cagsie Report 13 Apr 2009 18:36

what year was george frederick born and where?
have you got his birth cert? if so what does it say about parents?
on marriage cert is there an occupation for thomas even though deceased?

Pauline

Pauline Report 13 Apr 2009 18:24

sorry cagsie i will try my best. George Fredeick Woods married Patience Elizabeth Bowditch on dec 2th in 1905. Georges Father Thomas Wood is showing deceased on the certificate, however we have a poss birth for him on the 1901 census saying born in 1879 but we cant find his death. The marriage was in Newport Monmouthshire. does this help

cagsie

cagsie Report 13 Apr 2009 18:13

what year and where was george frederick born?

bit confused when you say thomas died before daughter's wedding in 1901, but was also aged 22 on 1901 census
is there a typo? can you clear it up

Pauline

Pauline Report 13 Apr 2009 18:08
