Don’’t be too hard on yourself AnnG. You’ve had a really tough few months and are bound to get down from time to time but you’ll bounce back. I sometimes feel that the best is behind us now, particularly where travel is concerned, but when this pandemic eases and we have a bit more freedom we’ll all make a new, albeit different, best. Tell yourself that you are going to enjoy the memories of the past but you are going to make new memories in the future and though life may be different it will still be good.

Now Mel has given you a shake and I’ve talked to you like a Dutch uncle you deserve a ((((hug)))) as well.

I am sorry you are upset Frank and leaving us for a while. Take care of yourself and come back soon.

We are having one of those days. I knocked a mug of tea over and it went all over the kitchen floor and down inside cupboards and drawers. Then I knocked my glasses flying. Luckily they didn’t break or bend. Finally I turned the tap on, put the kettle under it and got drenched as water went everywhere. I had forgotten to take the lid off :-(. Well, I thought, that’s our three things, only then OH knocked a glass of wine all over the lounge floor. I think I’ll go back to bed and start the day again ;-)

Oh dear an accident prone day Vera, was it red wine? But am I right you don’t have a carpet? Hopefully that is it for awhile. Now if it had been yesterday you might have blamed the date. I have just put a couple of books I have just finished on the book thread.

AnnG, OH usually drinks red wine but he had poured himself a glass of my rose, and yes you are right, we no longer have a carpet but an oiled wood floor.

It really was a day of mishaps as I’ve just remembered something else. I got my meds from the chemist and for some reason they had stapled the top of the bag over. Instead of being sensible and going upstairs to get the staple remover I just tore at the top and as I did so the staple went right through the pad of my index finger. All I could see were the two bent ends. I couldn’t just pull it out because it would have been like a fish hook and got embedded so I had to gently manoeuvre it through my finger and it was blooming sore. Then I had to clean it and put antiseptic cream and plaster on as I didn’t know how clean it was, and all because I was too lazy to walk upstairs. Serves me right really.

Mel, I’ve never found beetroot to help my bad heads at all though we do have quite a lot of it. We both like it cold with a salad or roast as a vegetable so I regularly buy it and daughter gives me quite a lot of her home grown ones as well.

I had to laugh at a phone call I had tonight from a local friend. She said “I hear you’re getting your Covid jab on Saturday”. I’ve only told one person so said “I suppose M. told you”. Apparently not. She had heard it from P. who was told by A who might have heard it from M. The local grapevine is obviously flourishing :-)

AnnG, in your predicament it would be surprising if you weren't a bit down in the dumps. Life is full of uncertainty for you about anything just now, you are just in this awful limbo on your own and you can't do much other than wait and see. I think you are doing so well in the circumstances. Try to ignore what your mind is telling you. It doesn't know any more about the future than your eyes can see round corners. None of us do whatever our age really. I bet Captain Tom would say that last year was one of his best years! Here is another big hug for you (((((((. <3 <3 <3 <3))))).

One of the things I wish I had done years ago is learn to read music and play the piano or at least try!

I wonder what emails upset Frank? I hope he's ok and soon comes back as we will miss him.

Mel the shooting stick is not to use in the kitchen, just to adjust and try in there so I know what size/height the seat I order needs to be as worktops are higher than tables. That must be annoying that your arm is hurting again. I hope it settles down again quickly. My R foot seems to be getting much better now and I could bear weight on it today. I'm still rubbing the anti inflammatory gel on it.

You have had a day Vera! Some days we just seem to go backwards don't we. I hope you sleep better tonight..

No Gill today? I do hope her mum is ok as it will be a worry for them if she gets worse with the virus.

Poor Vera you have had a day of mishaps and the staple must have been the last straw. Its going to hurt now for a while as I always find that with injuries to a finger you just touch more than you think with that finger and dos'nt it ache so? I was nearly as bad as you with that this week as I grabbed the chicken run door and put my thumb on a screw that had come through the wood. It hit me full on the pad of my left thumb. Ouch. Perhaps you have had all your mishaps in one day and won't have anymore for a while now we hope.

Ssorry Ann I thought you said you would use it in the kitchen as well as taking it out with you to rest on if the knees play up.

I am unable to rest at all tonight so have come on just to let you know I may not be posting for a couple of days. My beloved younger brother died late last night.

A dull day here ,yesterday we had a little snow but it didn't lay .

Frank I'm sorry these emails have upset you so much and I hope you'll soon feel ok so you can join us again ,take care.

Gill hope mum is OK and the virus isn't effecting her to much .

AnnG hope you are feeling better today too and that T is still comfortable.

I spoke with mum yesterday and she only has a mild dose of Covid, she said she'd had it for a while and was being told she can now go out. It's only been a few days since her positive test result and not only is she going to go out earlier than she should she was waiting to have a summerhouse delivered yesterday. I really don't know what to say, she's going to spread the virus to all and sundry the way she's going. We're still refusing to see her with her taking so many risks and putting other people at risk to. I bet she never told the people who were putting her summerhouse up she tested positive.

Poor OH had his second dose of the vaccine cancelled again, thankfully this time he found out before he went all the way to the hospital. He's not sure when he'll be having it now, he'll just have to wait and see.

I forgot to say thank you for all our anniversary wishes the other day. Thank you everyone. Sandra spoilt us bless her.

Sandra's still waiting to have her phone fixed, the shop gave it her back because the screen they'd ordered wasn't being delivered when they thought it was with lockdown, so at the moment it's not working properly and she's having to use her ipad as well. All she can do is wait for the shop to ring to let her know when she can take it back to be fixed. At least she's learnt not to take her phone into the bathroom when she has a bath now and she leaves it in her bedroom where it's safe.

Her back is on the mend and the bruise on her knee is healing, although it's still quite big and black. Sometimes she forgets about the bruise and leans on it, which reminds her it's still there.

I'm waiting for a new dryer to be delivered, I've been putting the wet washing on the radiator and now OH and I aren't feeling very well, we both have sore throats and coughs so think it's the washing that's caused it. I have lots more washing now Sandra's back so we need a dryer now.

Gill yes are probably right, the damp atmosphere could be affecting your throats so good for you to have a drier now there are three of you again.
Your Mum is very silly, I am pretty sure, if she is caught going out before she tests negative she could be fined. They have tightened up a lot. When OH had it, even though he was in hospital the test and trace rang here to speak to him and said they wanted to tell him he was OK now to come out of isolation/quarantine. Where did your Mum go for the test that gave a positive reading? I am sure she should receive some sort of instructions re getting re-tested. Just because she doesn't now have any symptoms doesn't mean she is not infectious.

Actually it looks as though she doesn't need to get another test but see below for what she should know.

How long you need to self-isolate

If you test positive, your self-isolation period includes the day your symptoms started (or the day you had the test, if you do not have symptoms) and the next 10 full days.

If you get symptoms while you're self-isolating, the 10 days restarts from the day after your symptoms started.
When to stop self-isolating

You can stop self-isolating after the 10 days if either:

you do not have any symptoms
you just have a cough or changes to your sense of smell or taste – these can last for weeks after the infection has gone

When to keep self-isolating

Keep self-isolating if you have any of these symptoms after the 10 days:

a high temperature or feeling hot and shivery
a runny nose or sneezing
feeling or being sick
diarrhoea

Only stop self-isolating when these symptoms have gone.

We have a brighter day today but its very cold out there but makes a change from all the dismal weather. Oh tells me its the only day like this and will be back to dull dreay and rain tomorrow so I must get some washing out.

I laid on my arm last night and now it hurts a bit this morning so I shall have to be careful with it today.

Gill you'll have to show Sandra how to use the dryer when she does her washing. Hope she gets news of her phone soon. Also hope your mum is getting better and behaving.

So sorry to hear your sad news about your brother Vera. Even if it isn't totally unexpected it is still a shock and very upsetting. Come back when you feel ready.

As you say Gill, your mum doesn't seem to care about spreading the virus does she. I bet she's not the only one though that isn't isolating properly and following the rules. It is why there is still some spread. All you can do is protect yourselves by keeping away. I bet Sandra will think twice about getting her phone wet again in future with the time it is taking to get it sorted! She must be really lost without it. Good idea to get a new dryer with all the washing you have now. It will help cut down any condensation on your walls and keep them dryer hopefully. I dry some things on the rads, but the rads get so hot it doesn't take long.

OH said next door are having all the lawn at the back dug up by the people now so it looks like they will be lawnless like us. Their lawns were very fiddly to mow with lots of edges around things so I am not surprised plus with all of us getting older it is a chore less to do! I shan't miss all the the noise when we have a Sunday late snooze! Lol.

Better get lunch started now. OH is on yet another virtual meeting. He is still a bit deaf in the ear so is even louder than he usually is! I've told him the others will be sitting well back with hands over their ears!!

Thanks for your advice about mum and the virus. I'm not sure where her test was done, my sister got her a self testing kit and then she took it somewhere and rang mum to let her know it came back positive. She said someone at the NHS said she could go out now, but mum's known for lying so whether that's true or not is anyone's guess. She sounds okay on the phone so only had a mild dose of Covid which is good as she has a number of health issues, but still she should be more careful and think of others, unfortunately she's not like that.

Our new dryer has just been delivered, it doesn't have a glass door on the front which I would of preferred but at least I have one now which is the main thing. Mine and OH's throats are really sore so hopefully now I don't need to dry the washing on the rads we'll feel much better soon.

You made me smile Ann when you said you won't miss the noise when you have a Sunday late snooze lol. I like grass, but I suppose as I get older we'll be thinking of replacing it with something else, but I think I'd like artificial grass so I can still see all the green, some of the artificial grass looks real not like it used to be, but that's a while off thinking about for us at the moment. Yes, Sandra is being more sensible with her phone and doesn't take it into the bathroom anymore, I wonder how long that'll last though. I think with lockdown and not having her phone working properly for ages she may of learnt her lesson by now. Time will tell though.

good that your drier has arrived Gill What make did you get? does it have to be connected up with an out let pipe or is it a condenser type?

Artificial grass, anyone know if it is porous? Oue eldest Grandson has it and it is useful for them as the boys can play on it after rain whereas they couldn't play on an ordinary lawn after it rained. I know it has to be brushed occasionally to keep it clean.

Annx strange that those of us with hearing problems tend to talk loudly because we can't hear we assume others can't :-)

Yes I agree Gill. I love how a new mown lawn sets off a garden but it doesn't stay looking like that for long. We keep toying with a patch of artificial grass but it is expensive. I think it is porous AnnG as they use it on a lot of sports pitches now. OH goes to where they have them on footie pitches when the ground is sodden.
